  1. There are probably a few places to fish those on the LR. I bet below some of the big resort docks would be good places- Lindsey's comes to mind.
  2. I just had my Shawnee out there yesterday. I need to carry an extra prop.
  3. TFO's replacement is cheaper that say Sage. It is 25 or 30 to replace a rod. Sage is 50. Free would be better- I agree with that. Cabelas makes very decent rods.
  4. I'd get this reel (Lamson konic) I'd get this rod (TFO Pro II) I'd get this line (Cabelas Prestige)
  5. Ah- my bad. I have definitely used that double deceiver though. Anyway- nice flies.
  6. I think it was yours. I thought you tied a marabou type double hook streamer with some foam in the tail? Maybe it was two years ago?
  7. I will once my wife gets over the Shawnee I bought... but it is really just a starter boat.
  8. Lancer- I had a huge brown swipe at one of your streamers from last years streamer swap last trip. One of those heart stopping fish. If only you'd tied it a little bit better... maybe he would have eaten. Edit: Joking- by the way- its a fantastic fly.
  9. I was glad to see you fix that head with the bodkin/lighter- I thought maybe I was the only one who did that and everyone else just tied miraculously perfect heads.
  10. I've pegged beads- mostly at Beaver actually. It works really well but it was so annoying to rig up I mostly just fish an egg fly if I need an egg imitation. You have to carry loose hooks with you and I was always losing them. It really is killer for trout though. Lately all I use are eggs tied on jig heads- just so easy.
  11. I've been really looking at a Towee as my next boat- I wish I could find a used one though.
  12. Ended up buying a Suzuki dt 9.9 off a guy in western AR. I think it is a 1992. May be an inferior motor but this thing looks like its barely been used. It has a mint looking prop and lower unit and the lower unit oil had zero water in it. Starts and runs really well so far. I am a little worried about finding parts for it. Oh- the fuel line plug seems to be a little loose- may need to be replaced. Also the cowling looks like crap- needs to be painted. Came out of the deal 50 bucks ahead so i guess I can buy some parts with that.
  13. Welp... I sold it. Been looking at various other 9.9s. I figured the skeg would be at least $75 to fix, prop would be 60ish, new seals for the lower unit would be fairly pricey... so I sold it to a guy and I'm just going to get a different 9.9. I'll let yall know what I end up with. Hope I don't kick myself for selling the Yamaha. The real problem was the skeg that was ground down to almost nothing. I was afraid it was not repairable.
  14. I am certainly no expert on this but I have done some streamer fishing on the White and the brown in my avatar came on a double deceiver two winters ago. I use a 7 or 8 weight if the water is fairly low with a RIO "striper" integrated sink tip- 9 wt with a 400(I think) grain if the water is high. I think the 8wt line is a 300 grain. You have to have a sinking line to get the fly down. Weightless flies are better IMO- they move better. The thing about streamer fishing is that you really have to commit to it- boat control is very important. Get in close to the bank- the big fish will shelter under overhangs and debris. Usually you will get a hit within about 2 feet of the bank- if you get a hit. Streamer fishing with big flies is not a high numbers technique- on a great day you might land ten fish. I prefer larger flies- 6 to 9 inches because they weed out all the smaller fish and have a better chance of dredging up a real trophy fish. Double Deceivers are always a good choice. Oh and strip quickly and don't stop stripping when a fish flashes at it. And strip set- don't trout set.
  15. Right- I understand man and I really appreciate the advise- I am new to the whole used motor market. I guess i will see what the two guys coming to look at my motor will offer for it. If it is enough to pick up another motor with fewer issues to fix I will sell it and pick up either a used 9.9 or maybe an 8- one that has a skeg and hopefully decent lower unit seals. I am pretty sure no matter what I get- using it on the Little Red, Norfork and White will jack it up. The Little Red is lower unit hell. Almost everyone there has jets- I just can't afford a jet right now. The other motor I am looking into is a Johnson 8 hp- not sure of the year- but it looks pretty good.
  16. Wow that is really good to know wrench. That is disappointing. This guy wants 300 bones for a pretty great looking little motor that he says runs great. May look for a Johnson or another Yami. Dang it I just want to catch trout.
  17. Hmm.. that would suck since I plan on using it on my trout boat- guaranteed to hit a rock or two.
  18. That may be a good idea- I've gone back and forth. Got a couple guys coming to look at the motor this weekend. Im just going to tell them whats wrong with it and see if they'll give me a few hundred for it. Are those late 80s/90s suzukis any good? This particular one looks brand new.
  19. Ya it has- it was a white river/norfork rental I think. 150$ would be rough. Oh well I'll see what Craigslist will do for me. Thanks for the honest appraisal wrench. Got my eye on a Suzuki 9.9- bout a 1990 model. It has a skeg and a prop and the guy is asking a decent price.
  20. I got a 1988 Yami 9.9 with my boat and I am looking to sell it. Not sure what a fair price is. It runs and starts really well. Newer carb, new impeller. Skeg is broken off, prop is awful and the lower unit takes on a bit of water. I had to replace the handle so that part is brand new. What would yall list it for? I was thinking maybe 500? I am new to boat ownership so this may be a dumb question- thanks either way.
  21. If the water is down you'd probably be dragging it quite a bit. If the water was up it would be terrifying in my opinion. The thing is you need to be able to avoid docks, rocks and snags so you need some decent mobility. I haven't fished out of a pond prowler but they look like they'd be pretty cumbersome and slow.
  22. I used a fair bit of Marine-tex epoxy on my Shawnee and it is very easy to work with. Only cost about 30 bucks on amazon for a decent sized container. I was only filling in superficial scratches- but I hear it is extremely strong.
  23. Awesome. Thanks again wrench.
  24. Thanks wrench. I guess someone can just weld a new skeg onto my motor? I definitely did not know the stretch I fished on Sunday. I did catch a good brown though.
  25. So I've got a 9.9 Yamaha on my Shawnee with a prop that needs to be taken out in the woods and shot- oh and basically no skeg left. Is there any way to get a prop protector of some sort on it? I need a new prop but after my last Little Red trip, I am positive that the new one will look like the current one after about 2 trips. The boat will float in about 3 inches of water but the prop obviously has to hang down there pretty far and either needs protection or I just need to get out and pull the boat. I've seen the two major prop protector designs that Cabela's and Bass Pro sell but I am not sure they will work without a skeg to attach them to. Thanks.
