flyfshn Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Fished just outside Maramec Spring from 10-2:30 today. Brought 9 bows to hand and lost 2 (1-17" and 1-18"). All caught on red san juan, black ant (they like that one), black/yellow jig.....tried others but nothing else worked. They were hammering the floating black ant! Was a BEAUTIFUL day out.....decided to go at the last minuted and I am glad I did!! Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. hfdhoosier Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Thanks for the report, im glad to hear you made it out fishing. Sounds like you did alright too. I've got the itch real bad, don't know if I'll make it till the 23rd. I bought a DVD that shows how to make a tapered furled leader, so I made the jig up the other day and furled some leaders up today. I made 2 with 2lb mono and 1 with uni-thread. They are all fishable but hope to get better as I make more. Dennis Eat, Fish, Sleep,....Repeat Member: ozarkflyfishers http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/

flyfshn Posted March 3, 2008 Author Posted March 3, 2008 Dennis, I have wanted to try one of those......may have to try and talk you out of one of those and then have you teach me how to make them!!! Shawncat, yep the water was up and it was pretty good fishing. Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. flyfishmaster Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 flyfshn, Were you just below the bridge or did you go to Cardiac and walk upstream? later, FFM (BTW: I used a furled leader this past weekend at BSSP. It has it's pros and a really bad con.) Woo Hoo Fish On!!
hfdhoosier Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Flyfshn: I really like the furled leaders, I haven't had a chance to use mine but they turned out like the ones I bought. I will gladly show you how to make them and give you some samples to try out. I thought about donating the how to DVD to OFF so others can check it out, don't know the legalities with copyright tho. NoLuck gave me a furled leader last year at Bennet and I really liked it. I had used one before and didn't like it cause of the drag in the water. He informed me about dressing it with dry fly mucilin and it worked much better. I use a lot less tippet with the furled leader which saves me money to afford the increase in gas prices.haha Hope to see ya at the next meeting. Maybe even tailgate before the meeting.haha Dennis Eat, Fish, Sleep,....Repeat Member: ozarkflyfishers http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/
Members beadhead Posted March 4, 2008 Members Posted March 4, 2008 I was there on Sunday as well, walked upstream from Cardiac. Even after falling for a few days the water was still zipping. I caught no trout, 3 suckers , 2 small bass and a rock bass to boot. I was stripping/swinging a heavy barbell eyed bugger.
Gavin Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Fishing down near Cardiac is pretty slow during the winter but at least you got some February Smallmouth.... I think most of the fish stack up in the spring hole during the winter....Floated 8 to Scott's on Feb 24th..Caught a bunch from the Spring down to Dry fork..started running into wade traffic by the Cabin and those guys said they didnt catch any.. Got two more at the creek between Cardiac and Suicide hill but not a strike between there and Scotts..Still a nice float.
flyfshn Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Flyfishmaster - I walked past the bridge at the end of the park and fished upstream (to the right), by the campgrounds. hfdhoosier, should be better weather for the next weekend and yes we will definitely tailgate!!
