Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 4, 2008 Root Admin Posted March 4, 2008 Team Trout Tournament was held on Saturday, March 1 at Lilleys' Landing on Lake Taneycomo. Thirty-six boats braved the cold morning but with the anticipation of warmer temps to come. We weren't disappointed- the mercury topped 79 degrees! Trout fishing wasn't disappointing either. Most of the top finishers fished exclusively using a jig-n-float method. One team used brown jigs near Trout Hollow and another top finisher did well across from Cooper Creek Access. I know some teams traveled as far as Bull Creek while some stayed closer to home. The contest was limited to artificial only- no soft plastics or scented baits. Only 2 teams chosed to fish above Fall Creek, and those 2 teams could only weigh in rainbows under 12 and over 20 inches. Largest rainbow weighed in at a whopping 1.4 pounds with no legal browns brought in. It was caught by the Allen/Huff team. We paid 4 places. First place went to the Tutz/George team with 7.20 pounds (8 trout). Second was Hinson/Huffman team with 6.90 pounds, third- Allen'Huff with 6.68 pounds and forth- Bracy/Bracy with 6.46 pounds. flyfshn Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 7 lbs won the tournament???? Heck, I could have caught that much with my eyes closed, casting over my shouder, while being pulled behind the boat on a wake board!!!! Sound familar? Guess I beat ol' Trav to the punch!!! Fish On! mwfischer Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Do you usually host a Fall tournament, or is it just the Spring? I had pretty good luck Sunday between Scotty's dock and Bass Pro on a 1/8oz Little Cleo and a Bronze and Red Little Jake. We had a few 14-17in Rainbows down there that were pretty healthy. I'd like to think I found a hotspot for next Spring at least!
Trav Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Flyfshn Haha, When did you become clairvoyant? Actually I was thinking.."just one good brownie hmmmm" Haha I have had a rough week or so when it comes to the trout. Been sticking to the bass. I didnt expect them boys to do much better than I if the trend was contagious. As it looks, the high water will kill it until probaly thursday so I expect my creel to continue to be the same as late. sms_alum Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 This was an well organized tournament and I will definafely be participating again next year. I know there has been some concern in the past about trout living after a tournament like this, but all the fish I saw wieghed in looked to be doing pretty well. I know our eight swam off fine. I know the wieghts look light, but unless you were in the tournament you really don't have much room to talk. Great job with the tournament Phil!
flyfshn Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 sms_alum, I was only kidding.....after the last tournament, Trav was razzing the winners about the winning weight! I would love to fish in that tournament! Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Trav Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 ................................ <-------------- Thats me not talking. TOUCHY! Dont feel like you have to apologize FlyFshn. I got the joke and I think anyone who has spent any time on OAF knows it was at my expense and not aimed towards the tourney. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
