rps Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Snow Fly: I based my comment re fly fishermen demographics upon anecdotal evidence. The TU meetings in Tulsa in the 80's looked like a joint meeting of the Petroleum Club and Southern Hills membership. Yes, since then I have discovered good old boys who fly fish, but if someone did do a scientific survey, I bet money I would be proven correct. BTW, please remember I moved to Arkansas voluntarily to teach in a semi rural school. I do not mean to imply anything negative about good old boys. To the contrary, I prefer them to that 80's TU crowd.
Snow Fly Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 RPS: I understand where you are coming from and as stated earlier I basically agree. I do believe in the last 5-8 years more and more people have taken up the sport of fly fishing which has changed the make up of the sport. I did enjoy your thread. rcguy Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Well It's been a few weeks since this thread started. Anyone fish the riffles in zone 3 with a plastic worm???
DoveTail Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Riffles, what riffles? Waiting for the water to go down.
Members Troutfishn Posted April 14, 2008 Members Posted April 14, 2008 Water looks terrible as does the current..... I think it's funny to hear people get mad at "bait slingers" as if they have NEVER used any form of bait. With the current as high as it has been I went and fished bait just to catch lunch. The best way to catch the fish may not be your preferred method so don't get mad and there is certainly nothing you can do about it. You have zones 1+2 so why want it all? Is the grass greener on the other side? It is my opinion that the "bait slingers" are actually the nicer crowd. Many of the fly fisherman want a ton of room to back cast and god help you if you cross their line. I am not too bad at casting but many of the older crowd expect everyone to be pro's, you gotta learn sometime. In fact the dirty looks from fly fisherman in trout parks that are the reason I stick to waters like hickory, crane, and taneycomo. There are good and bad attitudes fishing in every body of water, I always offer my best and it usually reciprocates.
Paola Cat Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Zones, baits, high water, low water, clear water, muddy water .... it's all about adapting to the conditions. I respect the fisherman that can adapt and catch fsh under any of the park conditions. It doesn't matter if you're fishing in Zone 3 or Zone 1. Right now, I'm waiting for some normalcy to return to the trout parks. This year's been crazy so far. PC Cheers. PC
bclift65706 Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I fish the park alot with fly rod spinning rod and sling alot of bait when I take the kids. I fish in zone 2 more than anyware and when alot of people are in the park I just use my spinning rod its alot safer for everyone. Never had any problems untill this year. It was sholder to shouder anyway I was fishing and a gentalman was 25ft infront of me flipping his rod out so i started fishing around waiting for a spot to open up so i could get in the water.the guy starts ripping his line back and forth and I move over to the side out of the line of fire and continue to fish and he backs up right were I was trying to fish so I cant. So I decided to go get my fly rod because safty waset an issue any more and he was gone when I got back luckey for him. I didnot realiese ther was that mutch tension between some not all fly fisherman and everyone else.I just read this post and wanted to share my story.
gonefishin Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 2/3 of the park is artificial only while 1/3 is bait fishing only ..... Maybe the whole park should be opened to whatever type of fishing a person wants to do. I didn't think about these types of things before I became handicapped. I am not able to fly fish or do a lot of cast and retrieve fishing anymore. I also cannot wade fish. I have tried to fish jigs under bobbers in zone 1 and zone 2 but fly fishermen constantly wade in front of me. The only area for me to fish is zone 3. I want to have a place where I can fish so I really don't want to see zone 3 opened to fly fishermen and have the same problems in zone 3 I have had in zones 1 & 2. Personally I would like to see zone 3 closed to wade fishing all together. Or perhaps the argument is handicapped/older people shouldn't have a place they can sit and fish without being interfered with. I would rather be fishin'.
