strangercreek Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 I have an Eagle Claw Black Eagle BE34 that I use on my featherlight. It cost me $20, a few websites sell them, as well as ebay and it has a decent smooth drag and will hold plenty of line (even in the smaller size). They are a run of the mill battenkill knockoff, but make a good cheap reel. They make another fly reel as well with a direct drag ($40-45) but I've never used one.
TroutBum4wt Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Strangercreek, what are the websites? I might just consider one. Thanks. "Where There Are Trout, There's Hope" - John Gierach
strangercreek Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 www.gremlinfishing.com I bought mine from troutlet.com when they carried them for a short while. Like I said, they are decent for the money (good for a backup or inexpensive set up)
Chief Grey Bear Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Hey Stranger, I have also been eyeballing those same reels at the Gremlinfishing page. I was looking at the 5/6 weight. If you want to try and get one a little cheaper keep an eye on Ebay. They sell a lot of them there. Or you can opt for the buy it now and pay the $24 + shipping. They have a lot of nice reels and other stuff for the flyfisherman. strangercreek Posted April 28, 2008 Author Posted April 28, 2008 I have the 3/4 and it is a decent reel for the money.
Members wgm Posted April 28, 2008 Members Posted April 28, 2008 I would suggest taking a look at the all metal , disc drag, Hobbs Creek Large Arbor Fly Reels $39.99 - from BassPro Shop
strangercreek Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 I have one of those to and regardless of what anyone says, they are great reels...(the Hobbs Creek, and the Dogwood canyon for that matter as it is the same hardware setup)
