Members jakessport Posted February 15, 2006 Members Posted February 15, 2006 Hello everyone....I've been reading posts for a couple of weeks, and everyone seems very helpful. My father and I are planning on coming to Taney for the first time probably sometime in April. I'm looking for anyone's advice as to which part of the month is better for fishing. We will be mostly spin fishing, I do have a 16 foot deep V boat that we will be bringing along. Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 15, 2006 Root Admin Posted February 15, 2006 Honestly there's no time better than others... all depends on weather patterns, fronts and rain.
loo10 Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 A Taneycomo virgin huh? I remember my first time. Anyway...... Be glad you're bringing your boat. Taney's a tailwater and if you have a boat, you won't be left high-n-dry if they start running the generators. Although with decent weather in April...that's doubtful. Stock up on cleo spoons, rapalas, and taneycomo drift rigs. You'll do fine. Good luck. Members jakessport Posted February 16, 2006 Author Members Posted February 16, 2006 I'm not familiar with the drift rig....is that something i can pick up at Lillie's? Or is it easy enough to build while i'm eagerly anticipating my trip? Thanks for the help.
rainbow Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Drift rigs are easy enough to tie but you need to see one first. The first thing I would do if I were you, before a line ever gets wet, is stop in at Lilley's shop and get a lake map and ask them to show you where not to go. You can ruin your motor in a few minutes if you don't know where you are going. They also have everything you need to fish with at reasonable prices.
Members Packman Posted February 17, 2006 Members Posted February 17, 2006 Lilleys also sells the drift rigs about as cheap as you can make them. Phil must be getting them from China
Members Fozzy Posted February 17, 2006 Members Posted February 17, 2006 I agree Lilleys Landing would be a great place for a beginner to get help. Drift rigs with power bait is the "idiots" (me for example haha) way to fish and usually catch a few trout.... More challenging fishing off a boat is throughing rapalla's, small spoons, jig's, and more.... I agree go to the professionals on the lake, and get some tips i'm sure they will help you out and you will have a good day on the lake. I agree, definatelly get some hints to where the Shoals are in the lake, especially now with the Lake being down several feet.
Members jakessport Posted February 17, 2006 Author Members Posted February 17, 2006 Thanks a lot guys, I'll plan on stopping by Lilley's first then. Again I really appreciate the advice.
