Spoonbills holding right in the channel and on the breaks. Looks to be a great opening day!! See everyone up there.. I have some new SI Pictures of these big guys hanging on the bottom and suspended around logs if anyone would like to see them I will post them soon. Good Fishing Capt. Don Capt. Members joanya Posted March 14, 2008 Members Posted March 14, 2008 That would be awesome if you could post those. By the way I never thanked you for helping me out with those SI pictures. It was a big help, and yes I've got a 997 being delivered on Monday. Thanks again!
WebFreeman Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Please post, Don. That sounds pretty cool. So can you download screen captures from that? How do you do it? “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
Seth Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Good to hear that!! I know the side imaging units have extremely good detail, but does is it good enough to actually show the bill of the spoonbill? I know with regular 2d sonar, you are basically just guessing that the fish is a spoonbill based on location and size. I'm heading down to the James River tonight after work and if it's not storming too bad, will be hitting it at midnight tonight.

Fishing Buddy Don House Posted March 14, 2008 Author Fishing Buddy Posted March 14, 2008 Ok, guys here is one that really makes me scratch my head, Not as to what it is but how big was this one!! We are zoomed in but look at the shadow it is making.. The Fish is facing to the top of the screen Look at the shadow shows the nose and tail pretty good, this fish is a monster, right before we marked this fish a guy right in front of us hooked one with a Fat Free Shad Crankbait, got it to the boat was well over 60 plus pounds, grabbed the fish by the nose and the fish slapped it's tail and it was over. This picture you can see two fish plus two more in the upper left hand side. The fish on the right bottom you can even see the shadow of the fish very well. Webfreeman as to answer the question about screen captures yes we can, this unit saves the data or snapshots to a SD card , so when I GPS a spot the unit saves the GPS information and snaps a picture of what ever screen I'm looking at. I can even record screen inputs to video, I can record say a school of bass in a feeding frenzies, or fish eating my drop shot, spoon anything vertical or visible in the transducer cone. Pretty cool technology. These pictures came on a SideImaging Trip I had on Thursday, sole purpose was to see spoonbill on the SI Unit, worked very well.. Will get some more pictures and hopefully some pictures of the spoonies we catch! See everyone out there. Good Fishing Capt. Don Capt. Seth Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Wow! Those side imaging units are amazing and they actually show the bill's of the paddlefish. Man it makes you wonder how big that one was! Do you think it could have possibly been two fish trailing each other? Are you able to tell what depth the fish are holding at on those graphs or do you have another 2d fish finder to show that?

Seth, it is possible but they would have to to right on top of each other and facing the same way, the shadow shows one fish (Nose and Tail Fin) anything is possible. I can tell depth both ways.. I just split the screens.. Good Fishing Capt. Don Capt.
