Micheal Kyle Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 We fished Beaver And Swan yesterday Started at about 3am and quit about 11am. We ended up with 8 whites 7 from Beaver and one from Swan. It was pretty cool yesterday and the wind was blowing from the East I new we should have just stayed home, but how would you know what is going on by doing that. We really did not see any one yesterday morning catching very many. I will say when the bite started it lasted for about 30 min and it was right at sunrise. and then it quit. Gray/ White clousers on a 150gr. sink tip. I figured with the weather change being cooler that it might just not be a good day and when I saw the wind was going to be out of the east, My grandfather would not even fish when it blows out of the east I guess some old wise tale." When the wind blows out of the East the fish bite the least and when it blows from the west they bit the Best". I guess we proved that right yesterday, for us any way, some one Else might of had a bang up day. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Dutch Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Yes it was tough yesterday. I fished all day with only 17. I covered from Snapp to Barker and from Beaver mouth to the shoot. The rest of the old wives' tail is when the wind is from the south, it blows the bait right in the fish's mouth and when the wind if from the north, don't go forth. There was a post a while back stating "They are back." Yes and no they are kind of back but not like they were for the time period from early 1960s through 2002.
Micheal Kyle Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Thanks for finishing the old tale I was not sure how it ended, I even tried to call my grandfather to ask no answer. The fishing should get better after this front as long as we do not get all this rain. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Dutch Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 There should be fish on the main lake staging on bars but they aren't there. I really think that we are only seeing a small come back and wish the MDC would check it out and maybe restrict the catch till they really get reestablished. But I don't see that happening. It took them over 2 years to come to the realization that they were gone in the first place.
Tightline Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 I agree Dutch,we all need to remember what the last 4 or 5 years have been like down there and try to put a sow or 2 back to spawn. We are blessed in this part of the country in that our White bass can grow to enormus size compared to the ones in the south or north. One of our 18-20 inch sows can lay up to a million eggs, with 20-30% making it .You do the math, thats alot of fish. Me, I will throw all females back this year from Bullshoals.Thats if I ever get to go and catch some. Good luck to everyone this year!!

If I were to keep any they would be all flat bellied males.
Micheal Kyle Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 I agree that is the only way to keep it coming back, If everyone will do this it wont take long. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
