Members craigk Posted March 19, 2008 Members Posted March 19, 2008 ouch ten foot Could be Real bad for this years season if water got over the hatchery Levee
Members Pastor Posted March 19, 2008 Members Posted March 19, 2008 They have a real serious levi aroud the main rearing pools that should cause the flood water to flow around the parking lots first. I worked for the dnr at Montauk in 98 and it flooded well over the 119 bridge and never came close to the main rearing pools or the lodge but coverd everything else. the old timers said that it never had flooded the lodge but trapped people in it in 93. this one could be worse though. Members craigk Posted March 19, 2008 Members Posted March 19, 2008 That Makes Me Feel Much Better !!! I have about 6 trips there planed I don't want to see my favorite park tore-up just a few days before the first time down for the year.
TroutFearMe Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I was just on missouritrouthunter.com and Walt has a link to the water level gauges on there and it said the the a gauge was at 15 ft
Members Pastor Posted March 19, 2008 Members Posted March 19, 2008 After the flood waters went down in 98 we were hand fishing trout out of the ditches in the campground and throwing them back into the river it became kind of fun and turned into sort of a competition. we even pulled a cat fish out of one of the culverts. the crows feasted on the crawdeads for hours. took us 3 weeks to clean up most of the park. I loved that job but I was hired through a temp program. The Great Commission Was To Go Fish-n
hfdhoosier Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Troutfearme: The gauge at Akers is 16,23, The gauge at Montauk is 9.5 and has been dropping. Dennis Eat, Fish, Sleep,....Repeat Member: ozarkflyfishers http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/
Members craigk Posted March 19, 2008 Members Posted March 19, 2008 how long did it take for them to reopen the park in 98?
Members Pastor Posted March 19, 2008 Members Posted March 19, 2008 officially we could not "make" anyone leave so as soon as the waters went down some people went back. the campground was in terrible shape but if they wanted to put up with it they could camp. People were fishing again that evening. In 98 it took about 2 hours to crest and went down even faster. but this year might be different given that water tables are maxed out and this is more than just rain run off, ground water is at the serface everywhere. Members Pastor Posted March 19, 2008 Members Posted March 19, 2008 I just looked at reeds cabin's site and they said that people are fishing and the water is back in it's banks, but the camp ground will be closed till Friday. The Great Commission Was To Go Fish-n

They have a movie up now......WOW Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark
