WebFreeman Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Soft hackle and egg. Used McFlyfoam and the empty ballpoint been method. Doesn't seem dense enough. Size 10. hfdhoosier Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Looks good, they will catch fish for sure. eggs are probably a little sparse but will work. I tie all my eggs with the tube method. Usually with mcflyfoam, you can roll the finished egg between the palms of your hands and it fluffs them out to perfectly round egg. Terry Beeson Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Looks good to me... But then I'm not a fish. The eggs do look a little sparse, but hey... they look a lot better than some that I've tied for sure... Gavin Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 The softhackle- too much hackle on it for my taste, fine otherwise.Egg is a bit lumpy looking..Keep practicing.
Danoinark Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Web..I can't tie eggs...so my only comment on the soft hackle would be to strip one side of the hackle and make only 2 turns. That would make them a little more sparse. But it looks good as is and will work just fine. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
WebFreeman Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 I had trouble w/ the feather twisting while I tried to wrap. Any tips on that? “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
Danoinark Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I had trouble w/ the feather twisting while I tried to wrap. Any tips on that? Web the best solution for that is to stroke the hackles toward the rear as you wrap forward. That should solve the problem. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

My experience with McFly foam, is that you don't really need to use the ballpoint method, just tie the yarn on... pull it all straight up above the hook and make one rounded cut...fluff it around the hook into a nice sphere. I'd say that you should have had one or two more yarn pieces tied in, and made your cuts closer to the hook. I'm sure the trout won't have any problem hitting it though... mAngler
