hoglaw Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Has anyone been out lately? I have a few questions: Is there any significant current or is the river backed up? Are there any stripers/hybrids up yet? What's the water temp? Anyone thrown a black spinnerbait at night for stripers?
bobber Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 saw them lined up along the hwy 45 (twin bridges) and as the lightning started at dark, a large group,..... a convoy of aluminum boats came from the point 12( war eagle arm) area .so i would say yes ,it's time so start making some trip plans <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
jay bird Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 You talk about a black spinner bait at night for stripers are you slow rolling it like you would for Bass or is it a faster retrive?
hoglaw Posted March 28, 2008 Author Posted March 28, 2008 I've caught stripers by accident night fishing for bass, so I anticipate I'll be slow rolling on the White. In the past, I've intentionally fished for stripers on Texoma with a slow retrieve. We weren't quite slow rolling, but we were letting 1oz white spinnerbaits with trailers fall quite a ways. I imagine I'll try deep steady retrieves and bumping the bottom.
jay bird Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I have caught stripers at night with rattle traps, and top water baits ( spooks and redfins), but could see how a spinner bait would work. You talk about fishing Texoma, me and a couple buddies will be going down there April 13th do you have any suggestions.
rps Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Texoma stripers will probably be post spawn by then. If they are the best spring and early summer tip I can give is follow the gulls. If they haven't spawned by then (I haven't been following southern Oklahoma weather) go up the major creek arms with current. I used to fish the Platter Flats area and can't tell you much about the far upper end of the lake. BTW Texoma has become an excellent smallmouth factory. Good luck.
Members boogercountybow Posted March 30, 2008 Members Posted March 30, 2008 I was off all last week fishing for Whites about 4 or 5 miles above the twin bridges in Goshen. I caught about 160 in 4 days I caught about 70 on Thursday before the cold rainy weather moved in. I was catching them on crappie Jigs under a rattle bobber and on rainbow Sassy shads fished on a 1/8th oz. jig head. Here is a pic of some of my success. Booger catches Brownies and letsem Go!!
hoglaw Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 Booger: You must have been close to Wyman. Were you able to motor up the whole way? I bet you didn't see to many folks up that far, but with this water you may have. How is the current? I'm anxious to get a report after last night's rain. I'd like to solo it one night myself in my newly patched bass buddy, but I'm not interested in fighting current all night. I'm equally disinterested in swimming in the dark, so i hope my patch job does the trick.

If I were in a bass buggy I would go up the richland creek tp the shoal above the bridge! Booger catches Brownies and letsem Go!!
