Im an owner of a time share at big cedar and have never heard of such a school there. Im guessing it is connected to Jhonny Morris's dogwood canyon private trout fishing thing. From what Ive heard about it it has some sort of hourly rate and someone on here a while back took his son and didnt like it to much. Jhonny owns like 49% of big cedar so they might promote it from there. If there is one there its proballly pricey like eveything else there. Can anyone tell Im not happy with our purchace there by the way anyone want to buy a time share. Dont know where you are from but I would look up your local fly shops. I know backcountry has been doing some classes in Springfield and Jeramey Hunt has been doing some in Branson.

It is indeed in Dogwood Canyon. Its thru Orvis and is a two day class for $470. They recommend that you stay at Big Cedar but I'll most likely stay in Branson somewhere. Big Cedar is out of my price range as they only have cabins available.

The plan is to go to Branson and do some things with the family over the weekend and then go to the school on Mon and Tues while the rest of the family continues doing stuff in Branson. Plus it will give a chance to explore a bit and see what the area looks like before we possibly move there.

Another option is to go to bass pro shops and sign up for a big cedar tour. 50 bucks gets you a 2 night stay in branson and a coupon for 50 bucks worth of shows or dinner tickets. the only bad part is you have to sit through one of their scams pitches

Check out orvis's website at www.orvis.com and it will list all of the Orvis fishing schools across the country(big cedar included). I'm not saying I recommend them, just providing a link to info. Personally I feel that Jeremy Hunt is the only way to go for instruction(from my own personal experience). There are probably other local guides that are good also, I have just had great luck with Jeremy. He wears flyfishing on his sleeve and once you meet him you have a friend for life. Good luck in your search!

I've seen them doing the instructional lessons at Dogwood. I'm sure they would teach you a lot and you would find it very rewarding, especially in such a beautiful setting as Dogwood Canyon. But I would never pay out that kind've scratch just for lessons. Go to a local fly-shop and put your money on THEIR counter, -- buy a $470 rod/reel, they would probably give you some free casting lessons on their front lawn, or at least get you started in the right direction to go and practice at home. Or join a local fly-fishing group, they have meetings all the time and basic casting lessons.

I have to agree with the rest. 470 would get you great instructions in the class and on the stream from one of the local fly shops. Most have classes for all aspects of the sport. At the same time the Orvis schools are highly rated too.

I would reccomend Jeremy Hunt to anyone that would listen. Check out his site at www.taneycomotrout.com . His phone number and email address are a the bottom of the front page. He is an excited and motivate teacher.

I have stayed at Big Cedar a couple of times and have no complaints. I do have a feeling a class through Dogwood Canyon/Big Cedar is going to be very commercial and not going to be very personal. Fishing at places like Dogwood might be fun occasionally, you are going to catch trout. They make it really hard not to. But....You will have a very hard time carrying much from that place and using them successfully on other trout water. Catching tame trout in an artificial aquarium setting is easy :)
