CaptainT16 Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Captain I know how he feels, I have had fishing days like that!! Yeah, I know what you mean. Unforunately, I have had my fair of experiences like that as well. Sometimes seems like I always have to deal with something while fishing. "He told us about Christ's disciples being fisherman, and we were left to assume...that all great fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly fisherman and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman." - Norman Maclean-A River Runs Through It
fox_76 Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 i've got one for ya,.. happened to me last night. I was fishing for some cats up around the dam in stockton had my big trble hooked loaded up with liver and cast it in, perfect cast, anytime i keep the liver on the hook when casting is a perfect cast! set my pole in the cross beams of my chair so that i wouldn't loose it, and went up to the cooler to grab a cold beverage and a hot dog to stick on the fire. about half way i heard the sound of the chair fall, running back to my spot i grabbed the pole and set the hook! SNAP!!! broke the pole right above the reel. now I'm wonedering what the heck to do. i have no idea if i have the fish, how big it is, could it really be big enough to have broken the pole? any way i quickly decided to try to land it with my remaining handle of the fishing pole and reel. got it landed and to my surpise it was only about a 4 pound channel. but one heck of a fight with no rod there to help ya, i should have just did what my niece did with her first fish ever, a 5 inch long sunfish, and just took off running backwards up the bank, instead of trying to reel the thing in. I didn't go to college,... I was too busy learning stuff. --Ted Nugent
John Berry Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Here is my favorite fishing story. I wrote it up several years ago. BIG_UGLY.doc John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
Members Freefall Posted July 7, 2006 Members Posted July 7, 2006 The "Walkering" fish story made me think of one of the weirdest fishing times I’ve experienced. I was only about 8 years old and on a float trip with my Grandfather and a guide near Broken Bow, OK. We were passing through a really narrow stream in the boat with trees hanging down so I had my rod laying across my lap and was ducking under some of the branches. I didn’t even realize that I had about 6” of line hanging from my rod tip so my crawdad crankbait was drifting just underwater beside the boat. Before I knew what was happening my rod was getting yanked off my lap and into the water. I didn’t want to loose my only rod and reel so I grabbed it and without even having to reel it in I pulled the biggest largemouth bass my young eyes had ever seen (it was probably only about 8” or 10” ) into the boat.
