motoman Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Since I finally having something to contribute, I'll give it a whirl. - I was tired of hearing about, and seeing everyone throwing spinnerbaits, so I thought I'd mix it up. (and since there was a bit clearer water, and I'm better with finesse stuff) - Was down last week, and on saturday we had to hold on secondary points, windward side, had the boat in about 30' of water. - The water clarity was at about 1-2' at best in parts of the KC area. - Carolina rigged a finesse worm and slowly brought it along gradual sloping banks. (while spinnerbait guys hugged the shore, well away) - Caught a 3.5 lb smallie and several other keepers in the 2-3 lb range. - It was tough using finesse tackle in the wind, but it worked! - We had to move it very slow, and actually stopping it for a few seconds worked too. It seemed after stopping it for a few seconds, it's like the smallies were sitting there watching it. And when you started creeping it again, they'd nab it! - Kinda like playing with a dog and a rope. If you keep the dog away from the rope for a second, leave the rope sit and the dog won't touch it. But start it movin', and the dog pounces!- - This worked in several different coves. It certainly is not a search bait, but since we had a good idea where they'd been in the past; we went for 'em again. - Hope this helps!
motoman Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 Oh yah, forgot to mention. They were all released back safe and sound.
