Whack'emGood Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Hello, I am new to Ozark. I grew up over in Jasper County floating and wading Shoal Creek and Center Creek. This Spring I will definitely be float fishing the Finley on day and half-day trips and I think I have my locations for that figured out. However, I am looking for a spot where I can go and wade fish (or even bank fish if I have to) a few hours in the afternoon after work and catch a few Smallies, or even a Largemouth or two if they are there. I am a catch and release only guy when it comes to bass fishing. Does anyone know where I could put a few hours in and catch a few? I would appreciate any information. Thanks, Lance. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
WebFreeman Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I've heard good things about the park in Ozark, but I've never fished there. The places I've wade are too out of the way to hit in an afternoon. The last time I waded, the nearest land owner tried to run us off anyway. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
zsmith62 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 You might try down by where the finley flows into the james, ive always had luck down there. Zach Smith
Flysmallie Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I have never fished the park in Ozark either but it looks good and I've heard good things about it. I have waded up around Linden. It's not bad fishing but the party crowd gets out of hand sometimes. You can park at the 160 bridge south of Nixa and wade either up or down stream. And it's pretty good where the Finley meets the James. There are a lot of places that you can get to for an evening wade on the James too.
Trav Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I have parked near the low water bridge over the Finley(just above James) and have waded all that area. As long as you stay close to the water the land owners cant say a whole lot. Even if you get an ear full, the law wont run you off so they are just blowing off steam. I have had better luck in the James just below the Finley than actually fishing Finley itself. Good Luck "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Whack'emGood Posted April 24, 2008 Author Posted April 24, 2008 Thanks for the replies guys. This forum, and its members, are awesome. Since I am new to the area, I don't know too many roads yet... I know the 160 bridge location... How do I get to that low water bridge access Trav? Also, what are my access points and how to get there where the Finley flows into the James? Also could I get some access points on the James below the Finley? I don't know how to get to these places and such. Thanks for the information. You guys are great. When I fish, I will post reports-- hopefully I will be able to return the favor then. Thanks again, Lance. Trav Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Quickest way to the low water bridge is to take M highway until you get to Equine Valley Rd. Follow it to Two Rivers Rd. The Bridge is on Two Rivers. You can park on the side of the road and walk down. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Tightline Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 That low water bridge is gone,Stone county has built a real nice bridge there now. 2 summers ago there was a local lady that caught a 7lb smallie in that big hole at the mouth of Finley,if I remember right it was caught using a big nightcrawler.
Whack'emGood Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. Good luck on the water. Fly_Guy Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Greetings all - I fished the Finley at the park the other day for half an hour - one small smallie and 3 goggleye. Water's still up - be careful wading.
