Greg Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Leonard I love Montauk state park and the upper current trophy area. But I don't get to go as often as I would like because when you are done fishing - there just isn't that much to do in the area. That's OK with me because I could fish all day and evening long. But my wife and young son are really bored there. You've probably already seen this Montauk links page but in case you haven't: http://www.missouritrout.com/montauklinks.html Hope you have a great time. joeD Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Leonard - I agree with the others. The age of your boys, and their interest level in fishing and the outdoors IS very important. I applaud your effort in getting them out. Does your wife fish? Paddle? If not, what will she do? What if it rains? "Dad, I'm bored." Wife to husband: "You should've /shouldn't of....(insert your "supposed" mistake of choice)" IN other words, be prepared, have a plan B and C, and disregard everything else, especially me, and just go. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Just go.
Members jrbhc8 Posted April 25, 2008 Members Posted April 25, 2008 Welcome to the dark side. Getting away from Taneycomo I think will be a good thing for you. It will expand your toolbox of tricks for catching trout. Plus anytime you get to explore some new water is always a bonus. Let Jared know when you are coming and I will try my best to meet up with you guys. I'll be in Missouri until May 24 and then I will be in Michigan for 3 months this summer. So no Taneycomo for me this summer. Hopefully I will find some new water up there. later, jrbhc8 www.troutchapters.com jrbhc8 ~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~ | <°)))>< | <°)))>< | | ¿ >°)))><

Project Healing Waters Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Leonard, It might be a good idea to take along some picnic games: horseshoes, lawn darts, frisbee, washers, etc. Those are pretty popular in the campground with the kids and adults. I might skip the lawn darts with a 4 and 7 year old boy, but we sure played with them when we were their ages. You won't be throwing many rocks at snakes down there this time of year. You won't be too far from Mill Creek, either. And I hear it is fishing exceptionally well right now. A lot of the kids also take their bicycles and ride around the campgrounds together. All the sites also have picnic tables. So you may not want to forget Lego, Lincoln Logs, board games, etc. In other words, there's fishing, fishing, floating, and fishing.
