Jason Essary Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Set some lines last night with 3 kids with me. We had a blast catching the bait and thought we done a wonderful job. guess the fish thought otherwise. use perch and shad, only caught two small bass and one google-eye. NO cats. going to try again tonight. Maybe it was the cold front, or maybe they arent in their regular haunts yet. Ill report the results tomorrow again. Quillback Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Right on! I never have eaten Flathead, are they any good to eat, I've heard they are strong tasting - but like I said I have never tried them myself.
Members KansasBoy13 Posted May 7, 2008 Members Posted May 7, 2008 I had some flathead sunday actually and I think they are a good eatin fish a little strong but not bad at all, but thats my opinion. Nice fish by the way!
Jason Essary Posted May 7, 2008 Author Posted May 7, 2008 They are good at the table, though strong. I like to soak mine in water and a small shot of vinegar the first night then wash them with clean water. Ive also soaked then just before the grease in buttermilk for an hour and the combo takes away most all the "fishy" flavor. Their texture is more of a spoonbill than of a flaky fish. Members troutman11 Posted March 22, 2009 Members Posted March 22, 2009 Great fish. I was fishing with chicken livers under a bobber the other day and I caught one cat looks like a minnow compared to your guys. I didn't weigh or measure but thought I would share it with you anyway. BORN TO FISH!!!.......forced to work...
