SRV1990 Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Don and all, thanks much for your input. I'll be there next week and will definitely try to put it to good use! And Trav, my apologies for hijacking your "grubs" post with my electronics questions . Appreciate your understanding, and good luck tomorrow!!! Trav Posted May 6, 2008 Author Posted May 6, 2008 Not an issue Tom, I use some pretty old electronics myself. So the answer on the flasher was informative. I am still using the humminbird 400 series. Lets you know my limitations as well. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
focused fishing Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I saw a couple of good questions that I would like to see the expert answers on. 1)Are you leaving the bail open (assuming you are using a spinning reel) when the grub is sinking? 2)Is anyone using scent? For myself I have been closing the bail. My thinking, right or wrong is that I have a little more control if a fish hits it on the fall. I also use garlic as a cover scent. I don't know if it really does anything for the fish but it make me more confidant so I'll just keep using it for the mental edge. Just like Don I leave the bail open and count the bait down on controlled slack (keep the rod tip high). I want the bait to fall as close to vertical as possible. I don't use any scent on my grubs either, most of what I use has either salt or salt / garlic in the bag. Right now electronics are helpful but not critical. If the graph you are using will show schools of bait fish your have a great starting point as to how deep the fish will be suspended. dblades Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 My main grub is a Kalin in Bluegill color, second favorite color is plain smoke, then blue pearl or watermelon.
