Maramec Spring Park - Free Kid's Fishing Day May 17, 2008

I just want to drop a line informing all the parents about this great opportunity for your kids/grandkids. It is the Maramec Spring Park Free Kid's Fishing Day on Saturday May 17.

This will great fun for all how attend, and parents you might to take advantage of the Free Parking as well. This doesn't happend very often.

Plan on being there agin this year. Took my 6 year old daughter last year, was very tough to get a good spot, lots of kids. However, after lunch and doing some of the activies, were were able to slide in to a good spot and she limited out in about 30 minutes.

Are they going to have that free bait again this year? She caught her limit on the white colored bait provided last year, worked great. I'm not too sure what to use, since I don't bait fish for trout.

Any idea what the 'Special Kids Only' fishing hole is? Handicapped kids? Under a certain age (six and under)?

That white bait they gave you is called Double D's. The guy that makes it works for the park and that's what they have been giving out the past few years for kids day. It's good all the time down there.

I'll be down there with the girlfriends family helping her sister and cousin catch some trout. We've went down the past few years and really enjoyed ourselves. I'm hoping that everybody will be off work that day and we can make a whole day out of it and not have to rush back like we always seem to do. Nothing beats fishing and then a big ol bbq.

I sent an E-Mail yesterday to the Maramec Spring Trout Fishermen's Assoc equiring if bait will be avalible and the area kids can fish. Here is their replay:

"We have a donation of bait, that we will hand out while supply last. Go Get Em Trout Bait has already made bait for us. I do not know yet if we will get the power bait this year. We take all donations we get and give them to the kids. The conservation usually ropes off the stream from the Handicap area to the Lacy Hole."

My mistake on the bait name. Double D's is another good bait down there, but the Go Get'em you mentioned is what they give out.
