Trav Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Needless to say, I feel defeated. Seemed like everyone has the Rock figured except me. Started fishing the Big Indian/Little Indian area. With broken transducer in hand I had zero luck finding the Grub bite. I couldnt convince my Bro that the fish were deep since I couldnt find them to prove it to him. Plus he had his mind set on beating brush. Yuck Caught a "few" shorts on SB and flippin tubes in the morn and a few on swimbaits in the afternoon. Total for the boat in 12 hours......6 shorts and a boat full of soaked gear. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Cajunangler Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Trav, not trying to give you too hard of a time since the two of you caught a few. BUT! It sounds like something my teenage daughter does at school "caves into peer pressure." I am sure you have been reading the reports and it sounds like you were in your boat, so next time wear that captains hat with pride and tell the passengers to enjoy the ride. Especially if it involves catching good numbers of good fish or not. I know my south Louisiana thinking gets in my way on Table Rock because I love to hit a bank but the fish here don't act the same. Better luck next time.
Whack'emGood Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 You were right and you knew it... the fish aren't on the bank. I agree with Cajun... you should've took command. When you started catching them, I'm sure you wouldn't have got any flak from your brother. If your electronics aren't working, you can still find them... the old fashioned way. Start out deep on the points (let distance from the bank, and angle of the slope and direction of the point according to what is shown on the bank, determine what is deep to start)-- fish around at that distance out. Then if you don't find them, move in about half a cast and fish around. Let your lure tell you if the fish are there and how deep you are fishing. Then go from there. I always look at it this way... most times if you get over the top of them you will spook them (unless they are REALLY deep... which does not apply here). So... you can always start out farther and deeper than you suspect they are and move in. You cannot start shallow and move out or you may spook them and then forget it anyway. Better to be safe than sorry if your electronics aren't working (or even if they are). Listen to your heart (instead of your bro's) next time and you'll get em. You say you don't have them figured out........ sounds to me like you do... you just need to go out and execute the plan you have in your mind. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
Trav Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 Its a sibling thing. It was more like a wit of will than it was "Peer Pressure". He did humor me for a couple hours, to no avail and while I hit the shoreline to fertalize a bush he picked up a couple shorts from the shorline while he waited for me to finish my duty and was convinced it was better than working wide open water, wich he detests. It was his boat and he always insists on the front of the boat so I just let him do what he wanted and mocked his tactics all day. I had alot of fun at his expense, including the fact that I was dry as bone in my frog toggs as he fought leaky parkas. I can understand his frustration with the open water. I feel the same way about worm fishing. I cant stand to just stand there and wiggle a worm when I can be aggressive. Everyone has thier preferances wether it be right or wrong. I give my advice and if people dont take it Im not offended by it. I know Im right. Thats all that matters to me. I thought I did have them figured out, and I was working points starting at (near)50ft and working my way in since I was handicapped with no electronics. 6 points and 2 hours later I was not doing any convincing. OH well, I guess thats why it is called "fishing" and not "catching". "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Whack'emGood Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Trav, You were doing it right then. You just didn't find them. If you would have been in control of the boat and been able to fish like that all day though, I think you would have caught em. Keep your head up, and don't give up on the pattern just yet. I think it will hold out for a couple more weeks, anyway. Of course... like I always say... "But what the he** do I know." Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't know. I know one thing... I don't know as much as alot of these guys (the guides and others), so I will keep watching the forum to see what they say and come up with. I might go this Saturday and not catch'em, but I am going to stick to that pattern because it has been working and nothing has happened yet that I think will change it. You're right... it ain't called CATCHIN. But thats what makes it so great when you finally do catch'em. I guess it wouldn't be as fun if you caught'em everytime.... Or, on second thought, maybe it would!!! Go out and get'em next time. Good luck. Trav Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 I only get on TableRock a couple times a year. I think this might be it for me this year. I didnt like the looks of the lake with the high water and I can think of a dozen other places to go instead. I can fish Taney everyday and the only times I get on other water is when invited by somebody else. Which is nice sometimes but its not the same when you have to sit in the back of the boat and watch feeble minded approaches when you know better. Most the time I would rather just stay home and fish my little cold water paradise. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson

SRV1990 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Wow, that's quite a pig you're holding there... how'd you get her, and where? BTW, love the hat, just wish I could find mine. Maybe the kids know where it is "You can always justify putting off a decision... but you can't put off the results of indecision."
Bill Babler Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 You know, my memory may be failing me, but not long ago, a World Famious Guide, Ocean Explorer, and Maritime Minister, that makes lots of post on this thread might have stated that he would never let anyone suggest how or where to fish. He would never put up with those kind of Sha'nan'agan's. He would simple educate his party on how to properly fish the locations he had already planned to fish. Must have misread his post. NOT LOL http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Bill Babler Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 SRV1990 This has nothing to do with you. The post was for the topic starter. Long time forum Joke. Trav and the rest of the regulars will know the gist of the Joke. Only a laugh and fun intended. LOL http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
