Took my boss and son fishing out of State Park around 1:00 pm and fished until dark. Two of us were using smoke colored twin tailed grubs with red flake (we tried single tailed grubs, but they didn't get the bites like the twin tailed grubs did. I, also tried the milky salt and pepper grub without much success.). We stayed about casting distance from the outside tree line and we found the best bite was to let the bait fall all the way to the bottom. We usually got our bites on the fall. If we didn't get bit on the fall we slowly reeled the gubs back just keeping the bait off of the bottom. After catching fish for about 3 hours, we finally convinced my son to drop his spinner bait and put on a grub. To his amazement, he started catching fish, too. We caught mostly spotted bass and the females that we caught were loaded with eggs. The half dozen or so Smallies that we caught had already spawned, but of course they were the larger fish.

I'm sure that we may have been able to catch better quality fish farther away from shore, but my boss was having fun. So I didn't want to screw with success ^_^

Man Scot! It took him 3 hours to switch. I think I would have done that the first 15 min. Glad you had some on the water time.

I again fished dam area on saturday...3 keepers totaling 12 lbs...one ky, one sm, one lm...my fish were all caught 1-3 ft of water...i caught some shorts and lost some nice fish bringing them to the boat. I watched 6-8 boats fish the point around by my home all day long, many boats were fishing points, it seemed that i was the only guy fishing shallow.

I spoke to one guy fishing brushes with grubs and he had caught 1 all day long. My feeling is that the point fish are seeing lots of baits and the shallow fish were not getting much pressure. I did see several nice bass cruising the shallows chasing shad.

Gary,

I was down this weekend and left sunday afternoon. We saw TONS of minnows jumping/fleeing on the surface back in the brush.

We were catching fish in deeper water, as loads of boats were pounding the shallows. But as my partner and I were driving back home, we talked about how we should've tried to go in more shallow. But we were catching nice fish deep..............oh well, whatya do?.?.?.? ;)

Was down last week, fishing relatively shallow... and it took me to see my brother in law catch ONE fish on a grub and I made the switch!
