Please explain to me the method, location, frequency or madness that the Missouri Department of Conservation has regarding stocking upper and lower Taneycomo. I catch less fish the further down the lake I am. Any reports of these stockers being caught in Bull Shoals after the great flood?

Before the great flood happened I was catching rainbows on a flyrod while trying to catch white bass in Swan Creek. And I used to feel the same way about lower Taney, but if you troll some spoons around the Empire area you would stop feeling that way, I know I did.

It is instictive for trout to move upstream. Especially if the current is low.

And I have seen the hatchery truck dropping fish at both Rockaway Beach and Empire Park. Russell said just today he once seen them dropping fish at Sunken Forest.

The lower Taney is a different lake all together from the upper. You have to approach it quite differently. Plus it is alot more fickle. Somedays they are biting bare hooks, the next day you cant buy a bite. I have learned over the years to just feel it out for a bit and accept it when the bite is off. Especially if there is no water being generated. It fishes best when there are 3 or 4 generators running. Get down to 1 or worst, none, and those trout got zippers on thier lips.

Also, There have been trout in Bull Shoals for 50 years.

It's also a temperature thing... MDC can't stock trout in the lower lake when the temp is high. That's why they stock mainly in the winter down there. In the summer, it's strictly a temp thing. They go as high as they have to to stock, according to the water temp. They've gotten in trouble in the past by stocking too low in the lake (Branson area sometimes) and the trout die as soon as they hit the water.

They also stock according to pressure. More trout in the summer and less in the winter. More trout before a holiday.

Now Trav I thought Trout were low on intelligence. How can they be capable of getting smarter. Ha Ha.

AGFC has stocked lots of trout, Rainbows, Browns and even Lakers in Bull Shoals Sad thing is people cant tell the difference. The last Lakers were about 10 years ago and did very well.

We use to fish under the lights near 125 dock and have caught a lot of big bows. IN the winter I have caught bows up lake in the Tucker Hollow Bear Creek area.

AGFC stock from net pens in the Pot Shoals area, use to catch a few stripers close to those pens back in the 1980's.

Taxi, remember when they used to run pontoons on Bull Shoals near the dam at night for lakers? For about 10 bucks a person they would take you out for a night of trout fishing under the lights.
