Flippin Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Does anyone have GPS coordinates for the cave on the Current River? This is the cave on the right hand side that is about halfway between Pulltite and Round Springs.
Gene K Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Are you referring to Merritt Rock cave (see map)? If so, here's a pretty close estimate: 37.31889 -91.47222 Copy and paste it into GoogleEarth or maps.google.com.
brittsnbirds Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Gene- How bout the gps coordinates for Parkers Cross? Pat
Gavin Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Think thats it. Its also known as little gem cave....its pretty hard to miss it from the river, its about ten feet above river level on an open bluff face. Big rock in the river marks the spot..Bring at least 3 lights for each person, and some warm clothes cuz that cave goes back quite aways.

I have never heard the name of the cave but it is a cave that you walk about 15- 20 mins to get to the end and there is a pool at the end. Is this Merritt Rock cave?
Gene K Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 How bout the gps coordinates for Parkers Cross? Parker Ford is 37.43778 -91.62361 And for anyone who wants to figure coordinates out on there own, just pick whatever spot on the map you want the GPS coordinates for, open Google Earth and locate that spot, mouse-over the exact location and make note of the longitude and latitude coordinates. Then convert those coordinates to GPS decimals. If you don't know how to convert, just google longitude latitude gps conversion and you will find all sorts of little web utilities that will do it for you. Ideally, we should all pitch in with some kmz files and mark everything on the river and post here on the forum. Lots of neat things you can do with GEarth...
brittsnbirds Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Thanks Gene- Tried to find it last year and could not. Had a fuel pump go out on my truck down there 2 years ago and had to walk out 7 miles in the dark. Got a tow from a super guy from Licking. His brother works at the shop at Montauk. Did a great job fishing my truck out of there without a scratch, great driver. Said he knew that area like the back of his hand. I believe him. Pat

I know exactly who towed you out. He actually considered buying some of the property I now have (at Parker Ford), and has even been back to visit for more than just your tow. And his brother did some electical wiring for me a while back.
