Dain's fish farm and bait shop is just south of the Taberville bridge (hwy. H?), they used to be able to tell you what is going on in the area

The following is a report from the El Dorado Springs Sun Newspaper

" Taberville report

by Bobby Dains

Dains Fish Farm

Several spoonbills were caught the first couple of days. The biggest I weighed here went 77 lbs.

It was good opening day, just what I figured it would be. I gathered that it was the best between Roscoe and Taberville.

I knew they were thick up here. They even caught several under the bridge. When you went above the bridge, you really had to know a lot about it. It was good fishing, but it gets brushy and they weren't everywhere. They were in the holes.

A lot of people limited out in their boats.

The fish are still there, but who wants to fish when it is uncomfortable.

Fish had to be moving because they just kept catching them under the bridge all weekend.

The general run is bigger than last year.

Charlie's Rod and Gun

Spoonbilling is going real good. I've seen a 90 and an 87 pounder. These were at Roscoe going toward Red Rock.

They are getting lots of them. I've heard both up and down river. Roscoe has been the hot spot. "

I snagged Schell Osage and Montagaw Springs this weekend. Started @ Schell and snagged all Friday night with never a hit one. Got up Saturday mornin' (or should I say I rolled out of the bed of my pickup) and drove to Roscoe. If there was one boat there was over 300 pickups with boat trailers launched out of Roscoe! So we said heck with this and drove over the Roscoe bridge and back west to Montagaw Springs. Snagged from the bank from noon till around 6:00 pm and watched all the idiots in the boats. They have no repsect for bank fisherman. They were so darn stupid they would actually troll right in front of myself and about a dozen other locals fishing from the bank (right by the old swinging bridge area). But needless to say we say over 200 spoonbill tied up to the boats and we landed three from the bank. It was tought trying to cast with all the boats and traffic in this area so hopefully in a week or so the traffic will clear out and we can get down to some serious rippin!!

Once again (think I'm talkin to myself but......) buddies and I snagged Schell and totally slaughtered'em. Ended up banking 16 bills with the largest one hitting the 70 lb mark with all the rest in between 40 and 65 lbs. Its heating up in this area and the fish are really starting to move. Lots of fish being pulled in everyday. You all don't know what you are missing if you are a snagger!!! I'm in it this year for a 100 lb plus hog! I know she's on her way just for me, then I'll take a picture of her and send her back upstream! Gotta love them sows!!!! :D
