I'm planning on an overnight float with my kayak and was wondering if we'll have low water problems. I'm thinking about putting in at mile 18.7, off of HWY U and taking out at Scotts Ford. Does anyone have any personal experience in this section? Is the fishing any good?

Well first off I haven't seen the river up here in STL for a couple of days but with the flooding and rain we have been getting I can't imagine low water being a problem. That said, I did fish that stretch of river last summer (or at least very near to it. don't remember for sure). The fishing was ok I thought. There were some stretches where we didn't catch anything and then there would be places where you'd get a bite every cast. I like the Jack's Fork and Current much better but for one day trips it is fun. Just look for deep holes with or near swift current.

Reegs,

Actually the stream is in great floating shape. Below is the USGS site with the current water flow and level. If you look at the Discharge, cubic feet per second chart, the current reading is 329 (400 or less is a very wadeable level). The normal level for today is 260. So floating will not be any issue. I have not fishing this area yet this year, so I cannot comment on that.

Here is the USGS link: USGS for the Meramac @ Steelville
