I still want to get down to try out Hickory. Sounds like fishing hasnt been too bad so far this summer. Can you guys tell me anything about the campgrounds there? Ive heard there arent much for facilities, which is ok, but is it a decent place to camp with the family? I wouldnt mind bringing the boys down for the weekend and hitting Hickory and maybe Shoal.

There is a city campground on west side of Hwy 60 just south of the hickory creek bridge, no amenities does have electric and water hook ups. There is a city park that runs along about 80% of the creek with ball fields, playground equipment etc. Paved trail that runs along the creek, and a few easy access points, and the rest has lots of brush and posion ivy. But the fishings good, Good luck!

The gods do not deduct from man's allotted span the hours spent in fishing.

Like Hopper said, there really aren't any public campgrounds. Looks like a motel for you unless you have an RV and want to pay the city! And yes, there is a LOT of poison ivy and brush. From Hwy 60 back upstream to the ballfields will be your best bet for fishing. Give me a hollar and maybe I can hook-up with you on a weekend day.

You might try camping at pineville on elk. Ther used to be a campgroung that didnt allow any alchol there and was very clean. Its less than 30 min from hickory. I think there maybe a place to camp on shoal were hwy 71 crosses it but im not sure. They are also supposed to stock hickory again on july 3. Let me know if your coming down and maybe we caqn hookup or give you some tips.

Like Ollie said, the campground is really designed for RV's, but I have seen a few tents set up. It is right on the creek and and is very close to Shoal Creek. Not many people use it though, so you would have a good choice of sites. All of my favorite spots are near there and the kids can swim near the campground or go into the park to play or use the skateboard park. I don't know how you would pay for the site though. I'm sure someone who is staying there could help with that. If they do stock the creek as I've heard it would be even better.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Thanks for the info guys. I have a camper, so that would probably work out. and swimming for the kids is a plus. Im not sure when I can get down. I do have the whole week after the fourth off but we have already cancelled the previous plans due to high gas prices and tight budget. Summertime is a crummy time to have the money run short. If anyone knows how much the campsites are in the park that would help a bit, (the wife is a planner, details, details, details.) If I dont get down there that week, I definately will when fall rolls around.

Ive been planning. Okay, Ive been doin' some map studyin'. What Id like to do is find an RV park in or near Monett and spend 2 nights 3 days. First day fish Crane Creek which looks to be about 20 min or so from Monett. Day 2 fish Capps which looks 10 minutes or less from Monett. Day 3 fish Hickory which looks to be about 20 min east of Monett. Im looking at Pine Trails RV ranch on HWY 60 Seems to be somewhat centrally located and reasonably priced anything closer to Branson the price goes way up. Does all that sound about right? Does anyone know anything about that campground? My other option is to stay at the Morse park campground in Neosho and do a bit more driving to get to Crane. Tried to call the campground number for morse park and I think it was parks and rec and I called Friday after 5, I will try monday morning to see if I can find out more info. Im really looking forward to trying to catch a few trout.
