bigredbirdfan Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 I have asked this question before and got up there and chickened out because the water appeared so shallow, but I will ask again and see if I can convince myself to keep on going. What do I need to look out for while taking my aluminum bass boat above fall creek? Can I anchor up above fall creek or tie on to something? The current moves so fast I cannot keep up with my trolling motor and I like to fish these fast moving area? Any grass bed that produce good fish up there?
twosets Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 There is a channel that you need to stay in when the water is low. It is really best to go up the first time with a vet who can show you the tricks. In general, you start at the left side (facing upstream) below fallcreek. When you get to the last house, angle across to the mouth of fall creek to the right side. You go straight upstream to the brushpile, then angle back to the left side at about 30 degrees toward the log that looks like an allegator(I am not making this up). Try to keep your boat in at least 3 feet of water. Go slow and watch the bottom. You then go up the left side to the brush pile, where it gets deeper. The deep part is then on the left side as you go. If you can follow a guide and take their wake path that may be the best idea. There are several huge rocks in there as you go up, please be careful. It is generally a bad idea to tie up or anchor in swift water, bad things can happen in a hurry. There is slack water below lookout island, which is generally out of the currrent. Fish do tend to hold there. George "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 24, 2008 Root Admin Posted June 24, 2008 The water has been high enough you don't have to worry about the channel. Stay in the middle of the lake and you'll be fine. As for tying up- don't!! Don't anchor in ANY current. If you want to do it, go behind some of the islands or in pockets where there's no current.
