TroutFearMe Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Is it the JR trekker and does it have a ped base or c clamp
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 26, 2008 Author Root Admin Posted June 26, 2008 You'll have to call the # and ask for sure. He said it was a JR and it had a pedestal.
Guest Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I want a vise but need a less expensive model. I'm starting out at this point. I've never tied a fly so I want to start small for now. If any of ya'll have an older or inexpensive vise send me a PM. Thanks, CC
WebFreeman Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 You could get an entry-level vise for about $15 new. Definitely enough to be dangerous w/. It's what I use, though I'm far from good or experience, but I tie a lot of wooly buggers (cause they're easy), jigs, foam beatles, eggs, zebra midges and, well, that's about it. I think I've tied down to size 18 w/ it. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
Guest Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 what brand/model would you recommend for the beginner???
WebFreeman Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I got mine from a garage sale w/ a kit probably 15 years ago. I don't know that it has a brand (i know some company made it) but it's the traditional Thompson type A vise, like the one attached. It's from Cabela's for $10, just looked it up for a pic. I'm sure any of the shops in Ark. would carry something similar. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
3wt Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 If your a serious beginner, I would get a griffin spider vise. True rotary, which is important, if you don't think so, you probably haven't used one. It's cheap enough to not break the bank, but good enough to use for many years. Will hold a range of hooks for anything you could think to tie. I think they're about $60 or $70. You can find them at Bass Pro, Cabelas, most fly shops.
