rcguy Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Dennis, Great to see you guys and meet Sheila. I think fishing will be better once the stream drops to normal. I'll be ready to get together again in a few weeks.
jjtroutbum Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 I had a great time !!! There was the defective wood. Some trouble getting flies down on the bottom. A case of irresponsible convertible top operation. That had to be overcome. But then there was all the good. Generally clear weather. Hilarius conversations and banter. A Pale Evening Dun hatch with Caddis mixed in laying eggs. A new rod tossing Caddis to a sweet little hatch. Discovering that Dennis(HDFhoosier) has also started making leaders that were a joy use thanks to his generosity. I have picture that I will get hosted and posted ASAP. With the genuinely great group that was fostered here at OAF. It was very pleasant. FishinCricket Posted June 30, 2008 Author Posted June 30, 2008 I am suprised that any of you even remember me being there, I got called away to work (GM is doing a 0% financing deal) about 15 times! Nice to meet you all, JJ reminds me of a long lost cousin or something and Jerry definitely reminds me of the father I never got to have.. Sheila was pretty pleasant (can't say the same for the fireman she brought with her, wonder when we get to meet her real husband? LOL) Thanks again for including me guys, I was worried that you got flooded out on sunday and ended up fishing in the parking lots! I will definitely be there for the next get together, and hopefully I actually get to be there... As for the catch.. The Kastmaster was a litle slow at first but I ended up with 6 fish (though I didn't keep any) by 9:30 am when I got called away to work (and the Charity Disc Golf tournament I sponsored this year).... Tell you what though, you had to basically let it drop and sit on the bottom beofre they would come and show any interest in it.. cricket.c21.com
NoLuck Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Hello Guys, I got home last night and was beat so I took a shower and fell asleep in the recliner. I had a great time again as well! Maybe next time everyone that hopes they can make it actually make it. If we can get some camping spots all together it would even be better. But I'm glad I wasn't staying in a tent Friday night with the storms that came through. Well lets see...... I fished with about 20 different kinds of cheese to catch fish successfully. I didn't have any of one type of lure to give to everyone else because I only had one to begin with. I wasn't sure how it would work and it worked pretty good, so now I'll tye some more. You guys make it sound like I am the only one that was catching fish. I offered my assistance to anyone but they all said no. JK I don't like being to pushy about telling people what to use because I like doing things for myself and I figure most people are the same. I just get more satisfaction out of figuring it out on my own. If you want help just ask, I'll do my best to help you out. Sunday was a tough day of fishing for me. I maybe caught 20 fish at best. But, I had to work really hard for those fish that I did catch. It seemed like you had to really switch up frequently. I would catch most fish in 3's and then you would have to switch again. As far as the Noluck thing goes.... well stick around me long enough and you will see exactly what I mean. Its just not about fishing. TRUST ME!!!!!! When you guys are ready to do it again let me know. I just need some time to plan it out. My job is kinda strange as we are on call most of the time. When a customer calls, we have to be there. RC thanks for all the good pics of me catching one fish and making me look good. See ya all later, Rich
Members tinner Posted July 1, 2008 Members Posted July 1, 2008 So that's what you look like Jerry. We had so many layers of clothes on that day last winter it was kind of hard to tell. Hopefully I can make the next one and meet some more of you guys. Did you see any scuba divers by the spring this time? haha.
hfdhoosier Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 No Luck: You have helped me out both times we have fished together at Bennett. Just friendly razzing from me. It's a compliment, it isn't just luck that you catch alot of fish, alot of it is skill and experience fishing Bennett. I haven't figured how to fish the deeper water, I usually fish at Montauk. I hope the comments didn't offend you. Would fish with you anytime. Dennis Eat, Fish, Sleep,....Repeat Member: ozarkflyfishers http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/

I probably would be lost on the Current or any other bigger trout waters. I know how to rig things and how to read water pretty good so I usually find the fish. I would probaly do the same thing to someone who would catch all the fish when I fish somewhere else. As far as fishing the deeper water its pretty simple. You either have to cast farther upstream of the fish you are trying to catch or add weight to get it down quicker. The problem is that during that far upstream cast is you have to mend your line really good to keep it on the bottom to get to those fish. Thats why I use a half roll cast to mend my line trying not to pull my line too far so it will drift good and get my fly down. It really makes you work for your fish but, thats what I have to do. Maybe someone else has a better way. When ever you want to get away again let me know and I'll do my best to help you out Dennis. I just get wrapped up in fishing so much its hard for me to pay attention to whats going on with other people but,if you want me to help you I'll leave the rod in my truck or on the bank. Thanks for the compliments, Rich
rcguy Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Rich offered to help me several times and I should have taken him up on it. BUT JJ and I had soooo much fun sitting stream side and giving Rich crap ever time he caught a fish.. like " did he hit the garlic cheese that time?" .The looks on some of the other fisherman faces was priceless. LOL Of course Rich takes it all in stride. I'm looking forward to our next outing!! It's about the only thing that gets me away from the house anymore. Cricket, Thanks for the compliment and hope you can join us more next time.
rcguy Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 By the way, I do have to admit to using a spinning rod in desperation sat afternoon. My arm was totally roll casted out!! I caught 4 fish on that rig drifting egg patterns and by adding a small shot under a small bobber I was able to cast to the other shore.... Also JJ made me do it!
