Forsythian Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 7/2/08-Hebron to Twin Bridges That's a nice little float, though I could do without carrying the canoe up the hill at the takeout! We plan to camp at Sunburst Friday and Sat nights, and float Sat from Hammond back to camp. Looks like the river is getting pounded pretty hard by storms right now though... sheesh, what a summer! Forsythian Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Would that be in a red canoe there Forsythian?? Brian Ha! Actually, we got the green one from ya. Hey Brian, I was just looking at the USGS link, and it looks like the river didn't get much of a "bump" from all that rain last night and this morning... was there really no spike? My bones are too brittle for white water Cenosillicaphobiac
Brian Wise Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 hahaha, yeah, green!! The USGS site pretty much says it all. Most of the rain stayed way south in the watershed yesterday so it didn't really have a chance to "pile up" in the river. When Mtn Grove and just south of there get big rain is when the river tends to blow out more. Brian My Youtube Channel
Forsythian Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 It was a great float Brian. My 13 yr old split time between the front of the canoe, and a little Otter we rented. Even with all the canoe traffic he caught several smallmouth & goggleye above McKee, and a handful of those amazing wild rainbows the rest of the way. The folks at Sunburst are just as nice as has been advertised... but... the place was a little rowdy for families IMO. If I still can't convince the wif of the merits of gravel bar camping, I think we'll try camping at ROLF next time. Mebbe float down from TB. Cenosillicaphobiac
