laker67 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Congratulations to Micheal Kyle, owner/operator of Back Country Outfitters in Springfield, Mo. Micheal established a new IGFA fly rod /line class world record for a White Bass that he caught recently. A record that had stood for 27 years. Now that this record is officially in the book, I can tell the story that led up to him accquiring this prestigious award. Last winter,Micheal, sat around the fly shop and researched the record book looking for a world record fish that he could pursue in our area of lakes and streams. He chose this fish and this line class as his goal, and went after it. The record that he chose to pursue, just happened to be the largest fish listed in all seven of the line categories. The old record was 3 pounds 8 ounces, Micheals new record is 3 pounds 12 ounces. He then researched IGFA as to certain limits and requirements associated with fly line, leader, tippett material, and even what qualifies as a fly. IGFA has minimum and maximum requirements. He then reserched tippett materials that had a history of meeting all of IGFA's standards as to mimimum and maximum break test. This is one of the most important requirements that IGFA requires. If your tippett fails by as little as one tenth of one pound, you're history in that particular line class. Micheal spent many, many hours on the water to acheive this goal. Most records are caught by accident, but not this one. World record holders are few and far between in the Show-Me State, and even fewer that are "Fly Rod" World Record holders. Micheal earned his place in that group. Well done Micheal, well done!

Micheal Kyle Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Thank you, yes I have a few I will post one for you guys to enjoy. Plus when I get the replica back I will tell everyone so that you can come see it at the shop. I caught the fish back in march while fishing Beaver Creek It was between all the floods with a couple of buddies of mine Duane (duckydoty) and Jeremy Reece. Beaver Creek Flooded very bad the Second week of March and I told them to get ready when the flood resides, we are going to catch a lot of White Bass. Duane and I fished for about 2 weeks straight every night and we probably caught around 800 White Bass each. They would range from 10" to the beast that I caught 21". A lot of them though were 16"-18" I would say at least 60% of them. We fished until you could not even get the boat in because the water was so high up the road. I hope that others had the same luck and believe me I mean luck. I cant wait until next year Beaver Creek is back. I leave for Alaska on Friday and I'm going to try for some more records up north. I hope and pray that I can get one but if it does not happen no big deal I'll just have to try again. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
laker67 Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 I was suprised that the record was that small really. I have seen some huge whites here in kansas. Is there any fish that fights like a white, pound for pound? Keep in mind that this was a true white bass that Micheal caught, not a striper or a hybrid that is most commonly caught. The all tackle world record is 6 pounds 13 ounces. Only two other fish in the record book exceeds Michaels catch, and one only beats him by one ounce. He has "the" largest ever recorded on fly rod. The other record fish are spin rod / all tackle records.

Dawgsquat Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Congratulations. Nice catch. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
jjtroutbum Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Sweet, Kinda went big game hunting and certainly surpassed the average. Wonder if with all this water the Dam at Taney might not have even more contenders up there in the fall this season? On the trout side of the page that is.
