Members wildhunter066 Posted July 9, 2008 Members Posted July 9, 2008 My girlfriend is forcing me to take her to eureka in about a month so i have decided if i have to go im going to get some fishing in while i am there! I have never fished anywhere around eureka before and it looks like the tailwater at beaver is probably the best oppurtinity for some trout on the fly. If anyone has anyother suggestions that would be great. It looks like they are running alot of water out of beaver so im guessing there is no wading oppurtunitys. I was also wondering if there is any good guides for the tailwater and if the generation is up can you catch them on the fly rod any suggestion would be greatly appreciated thanks!
catman Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 You can leave the fly rod at home. Call The Beaver Dam Store, they can hook you up. I went by and talked with Bryce (guide) the other day and they have been catching some big Brown's out of the boat with spinning rigs drifting. I was born at night, but not last night. Odds are with the prepared...
rps Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 On Monday I went upriver by boat to the 62 bridge. That is about 6 miles downstream from the dam and near the reasonable end of the trout water. The water was brown and had about a foot of visibility. Surface temp at the 62 bridge was 70 degrees. The water was much higher than "normal" for July but well below the debris stuck in trees ten feet up. Much can change in a month, however. Check back to the site and at the Dam store regularly. BTW, therew are some very very large trout in the six mile stretch above the 62 bridge.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I dont know how big of a fan you are of trout parks but Roaring River isn't but like 30 or 40 minutes away I believe? Easy fun fishing in the lower end of the river a.k.a. the "fly fishing area" as I've always called it! If you're going on a weekend, might be fighting crowds but the fishing should be good.... Right now is one of the best times....you can just about fish all day with a beetle or ant and catch fish all day! Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...

I think i may try to get a guide and fish on the white i just hope to flt fish the old spinning rod just doesnt provide the same excitment anymore.
chub minnow Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 You could most likely float fish with your fly rod by August. You'll probably want sink tip or even full sink line and some big flies to help deal with the current and depth, but there will definitely fish to be had unless it rains any more!!

How big are you talking about?
catman Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Big browns at Beaver? Is that a miss-print ? How big are you talking about? A 4 to 5 Pound Brown is big on the Beaver Tail, they are there... I was born at night, but not last night. Odds are with the prepared...
laker67 Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Thanks Catman! From reports that I have had in the past, I did not know that there were browns that size. How large do the rainbows grow?

Maybe up to 2 or 3 pounds the biggest, but mostly 1-1/2 pounds if the stripers from the Rock don't get them when they come up the river. They are like a pack of wolves on trout..
