This one already has a home. Just have to put the felt on the bottom and let the finish dry a couple of days.

There will be a similar one up for auction at the Conclave in October. Don't miss it!!!

Great station. What are the 2 rows of trays on each side for? Where do you find the cedar at?

Zach,

You have to be a GOOD BOY to get one from Santa... :P

JD,

The two sides have removeable partitions, so you can take them out and use them for material or whatever. The main idea is to put things like bottles of head cement and other stuff.

The cedar was some I purchased several years ago at a flea market. But I found some more on craigslist.com here in the area. Now I need a planer... it's rough cut....

(yeah, I want Santa to bring me a planer.... and I've been a GOOD boy...)

nice job Terry. Next week I plan on doing some housekeeping on the one I made. I like the little holes and places that different tool can be placed in. One of the things I did on mine was to get a length of brass brazing rod and cut it in short pieces. I lined them across the back by drilling holes and pushiing them in about every 1 1/2 inches. I also used dowel rods for the same thing. I then put my thread, floss , lead, and tinsel spools on them. Atter I get it cleaned I will post a picture of it. Did you use forsner bits for the large holes. that is what I used since it doesn't splinter the wood. I have made three now one for my grandson, my first one and now the newer one . each time I add a little more.

What I made my base out of was a piece of 3/4 plywood which I added a veneer walnut top over. the side lumber and trim are from oak purchased at home depot. Probally 30 dollars total for a 120 dollar station purchased.

Thom,

The strip on the left with the holes will have 3/8" dowels in them about 5 inches long for thread. And yes, I used Forstner bits except for the bigger holes in the back. I need to add a couple of sizes to my collection. Then I can use my spade bits for sinkers...

This one is SOLID cedar and Titebond with the exception of the dowels. There are no screws, nails, or anything else, unless you count the felt I'll put on the bottom just before shipping.

John,

Good little boys don't lie about being good little boys.... :P:lol::lol::lol:

I enjoy making these and wish I had more time to make them. I have the one for Conclave to finish and then need to find a good source for wood. I like working with cedar, but I'm ready to make an oak, maple, walnut, or other species. I'd like to try Aspen just to see how it would hold up. I think it would be a nice "rustic western" look.

Terry, look for a custom hardwood floor installer or custom cabinet maker in your area. They usually work with the finer woods and sometimes you can go thru their scrap piles and find real nice pieces that are a good size for what you are doing. If not, they could get it.

Hmm, maybe I should save up plenty of money for the Conclave.......

And whats this sudden rule change about not lying about being a good boy?

JD,

You mean someone who does stuff like this?

Big Dave's Woodwork click here This guys work is really neat. Just look at the staircases. One of the rustic shelves job is at a BBQ place here in Nixa. It is really neat work.

Good idea. I bought some "junk" lumber at a yard sale and may do something with it. I thought when I saw the box, it was chipboard, but turned out to be solid with plastic vaneer. I'm going to plane it and do something with it. Got quite a bit of lumber for $5...
