Trout Stalker Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 About half the time I go to Bennett, people walk right in front of me while I am fishing. Sometimes behind me when I am casting. Why don't people have respect for others? Am I doing something wrong? Regards, Trout Stalker
Bman Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Usually you see more of this type of trout park manners between Memorial day and Labor day. Try before or after these holidays. By late Sept and Oct. there are normally some really nice respectful folks down there. Otherwise just grin & bear it and keep on moving. The only good line is a tight line
Members wildhunter066 Posted July 13, 2008 Members Posted July 13, 2008 Same thing happens at roaring river. I can understand kids doing it that doesnt bother me. Its the adults that arent even fishing just taking a walk that amazes me. Why the would walk 10' behind a guy casting a fly line amazes me. I know i have got wrapped up in fishing and go to backcast and there somebody walking right behind me. I am surprised more of them dont get a hook in them.
DoveTail Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 It's no excuse, but seems to happen a lot in trout parks. Crowded areas, everyone pays a marginal $3 to fish so they have to get in where they see a fish being caught. The fish are all over the stream, no place is any better than then next in reality but they want to step in. I have seen it where I pull my line in to change a fly and make a step or two and someone will come in and try to get where I was fishing. They say "I thought you were leaving". So, that goes with the trout parks. The rivers and streams around are not as crowded, so people tend to spread out and respect your comfort levels. Most people are very nice and friendly. I guess it only takes a few that leave a bad impression.

Why don't people have respect for others? Am I doing something wrong? Regards, Trout Stalker It's like Dovetail said, everyone has the $3 attitude. They paid their $3 so "they think" that they have the right to fish anywhere they choose at any given time. Stream courtesy seemed to slip downstream in the mid eighties. Prior to that, people would respect your fishing area and your backcast. What a pleasant day when someone still does. Believe me, courtesy "today" does not go unnoticed! Unfortunatey, this same disregard for the other fisherman, has infested itself at Lake T-como and numerous other areas. This will sound cruel, but the children that someone referred to in an earlier post, about walking in front of you, guess what, they are the offspring of those that missed the courtesy boat in the eighties.
jjtroutbum Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I don't fish expecting any personal space in the parks. I try and watch my back casts and over all try and not step on any toes. This can be difficult to say the least when there are so many toes everywhere. I also try to not get my nose out of joint anymore since there is no better way to ruin the experience for me. "Water off a ducks back."....."Don't worry. Be happy." Those are my themes and jingles. I will not let someone else effect my experience. I wasn't always this way and my days fishing could suffer for it. just my 2 cents JJ ps. My first sig line quote covers my new and improved attitude. Terry Beeson Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I think the nail has been hit on the head. Many people have no idea about walking behind someone while casting. My wife doesn't fly fish, and she's done it a couple of times, once at Bennett, until I told her it was not only rude, but a bit dangerous unless she wanted another piercing.... The other part is why I'm not into fishing the parks during the summer. There is enough of that on Taney, BS tailwaters, Norfork tailwaters, and the Spring River... I'll third that, just because we know that doesn't mean everyone else does. It is a trout park for goodness sake, people will always be walking behind you at some point, that is how you get from one spot to the next. If someone is back casting, I'll just wait till they lay it out there then pass by. I grew up fly fishing the fly zone at RR, learned to roll cast with the best of them, that is the majority of what I do in the parks with my skud/indicator setup unless I'm fising dries or a bugger. If I'm back casting, I try to be aware who is where, kind of like those trees that are behind you sometimes. Just watch out, its par for the course at a trout park. Trout fishing in MO can be whatever you want it to be, you just have to know where to go. If you don't mind crowds and don't mind a lot of roll casting, go to the parks, if people annoy you go to some of the off the beaten path places where you won't see a soul, non park trout areas mid-week (Crane, Capps, ect.)...heck even sometimes the parks in mid week are pretty sparse.

Trout Stalker Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 I see that I am not the only one that notices this. I love the winter catch and release in the parks along with the early spring before May and fall after Labor day. There is plenty of casting room and choices to go to. I went to Tennesse in May to fish the Smoky's and got spoiled. No one around except my 2 buddies and some great fishing. I wonder what the future of the price of daily tags will be. At rising cost of everything, you would think the daily trout tag will go up.
