Members mo4packer Posted July 14, 2008 Members Posted July 14, 2008 Only have been once. I need suggestions on where to fish and what to use. Do I have to have lights on while fishing? I know that spot lights are illegal. I was wondering while fishing "anchored" do you still need both lights on? Thanks in advance for the help!

If you are anchored you need to have your Stern light on. I always keep a spotlight in the boat for mulitpile reasons. Mainly to "flash" at the drunk idiots heading home from the waterfront bars. I suggest you Pick up and read your boating law book... Oh yeah, Good Luck and have fun!!!
Members mo4packer Posted July 14, 2008 Author Members Posted July 14, 2008 My stern light would be the one on the front?! Any suggestions on location ON Loz
catman70 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Back: Stern Front: Bow Middle: Beam Left: Port Right: Starboard Location: Main and secondary points for bass. Try dark jigs and soft plastics.
Members mo4packer Posted July 21, 2008 Author Members Posted July 21, 2008 Well, I went fishing on Friday night. I put it to them on a football jig before dark. After dark, not a sniff!!!! 10 in. worm, jig, and crank nothing! Is this normal and any suggestionS on what I did wrong? I fished in the glaize and caught them in 20 ft or so and I mean cought them! Night hits and PUFF! Help!~
CMAC Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 M4P: I would say it would depend on the bank you were fishing, but try to move shallow when darkness falls.
TroutRinger Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 If you are night fishing for bass, you can't beat 10 or 11 inch plastic worms. I prefer Culprits and Powerworms in the green and black and blue and black. I seem to catch a lot of bass at night in between the docks and shore. For crappie, I have always had success with minnows near docks with bright lights. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." "There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot."
Goggle-Eyed Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Not sure why they completly shut off at night. I have found that I can usually switch to Solid Black and get some type of action when this has happened to me. Also, the current thermocline on the Glaize is around 10-12 feet and mostly the fish have been holding just above that... Your report about catching them 20' deep completly blows that out of the water though... Glad you had a good trip overall. Joe
Members 713lefty Posted August 10, 2008 Members Posted August 10, 2008 Jigs or 10" blk. Power Worms in brush or rock piles. Try deep & shallow to see what they are up to. Usually I can find some on chunk rock in 5'-10' depth. They tend to be deeper if in brush. I've caught them 25' deep in brush off the ends of docks at 10pm & at 11pm 5' deep 1/4 mile away on rock using a fat free shad deep diver & bouncing it off the rocks. I also like a zoom swimming chunk trailer. If it's a slow nite, use a chompers twin tail trailer. I've had many rod crushing bites at night. Locate the brush before dark. Good Luck. Try a spook early, before sunup. Just look & listen for surface splashes to start. Rocky main lake points are good. All the rain & water flow thru the dam will alter or eliminate the thermocline. I've heard of a rather shallow bite this year. Heavy boat traffic may push them down, if it's comfortable for them they may stay there.
