timsfly Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Well the water is still in great shape, the dry fly fishing is better than ever, good caddis hatches in the afternoon, the B.W.O's are still comming off strong and the trico hatch in the mornings is as good as ever. The conservation dept. did a little work the first of the week(should be done by wed.) replacing a baffle with chunk rock, this murkyed the water a bit, but with the strong flow we have right now, the water will clear quickly. The water is still very clear, so use 7X or 6X tippet right now on your fly rods, and 2 or 3 lb line on your spinning outfits. Nymphs are working well, the pheasant tails, and the sow bugs worked very well this week, the copper johns, small brassies and burlaps did well also. Glo-balls, san juan worms, and thread jigs have been good all week. Good dries other than those mentioned earlier, are beetles, ants, hoppers, stimulators, and humpys. Fishing plastic worms, then the cheese yellow, pink, and the orange have been the best colors. If you are using the eggs, then orange, white, and hatch brown have been best. Roostertails this week were the skunk, black, brown and the frog green. Spoons are working better than ever, gold, copper, and brown trout were good spoons, there were some good fish caught this week on spoons, 2 that I saw were a good 3 lbs each. Marabou jigs are working great as usual, black/yellow, olive, brown, white and tan are best right now, in the micro jigs, it has been the sculpin, olive/gold head, tan, white, and the brown/orange. In zone 3 powerbait paste in yellow, or rainbow seemed to be good this week, but nightcrawles and corn were catching fish all week also, according to reports from some of my customers, one little girl, she was maybe 10 years old, had a 3 lb rainbow she caught on nightcrawler, right below the old dam. techo Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Tim, Great report. My neighbor and his family went down there for some camping and fishing last weekend. I told them about you and your shop. They said they stopped in to see you and you gave his little boy a tackle box of some sort. They were very impressed with the friendliness of the folk down there. Dan said a woman with only one finger on one hand tried to teach him how to tie on the tippet, but finally just tied it on for him. Another guy gave him a fly. Another guy would hook a fish and let Dan's kids reel it in. You all better quit being so friendly down there or you will be swamped with people. Thanks for being so kind to my best friend (next to my Mrs.) Tim Carpenter
