I don't (haven't) fished there but I heard after putting in at Voila, head upstream and troll wiggle warts along the channel edges.

We may not have allot of Kings River Arm anglers on the forum... yet.

According to The Fishes of Missouri the spawn can begin as early as late Feb and last as late as early April with "the peak generally in March". I had a fisheries biologist tell me they made the biggest river run about March 15 every year and water temp did not matter as much as photoperiod (length of daylight). For most other species listed the book does give temps that trigger spawn but not walleye, however it did say eggs hatch in 7 days in 57 degree water, and the Kings has already had water temps of 60 degrees.

The walleye are definitely in the upper Kings arm right now, as well at upper white near Holiday Island. In Kings it does not seem that many get caught during the day other than incidently by guys after some other species. The guys who fish the upper holes at night with big chubs do best, and that action starts in early Feb.

In the good old days ( two years ago) when we had enough water to run from Sweet Water past the 86 bridge with out to much trouble I watched a father and son fishing for white bass pull out a monster walleye. I would guess 9 pounds +, it was a great fight and they where thrilled to death. This was in late March early April and I guess it was a stragler from the early spring run. I have personally caught on average 2-3 walleye a year fishing for white bass up the kings. The biggest was about 26 inches long and after we got it home and cooked it up my wife said we needed to start fishing for these and leave the white bass in the lake :)

  • 2 weeks later...

the news paper (arkansas gazette) had a report of the latest river shocking to track the walleye spawn and kings didn't show as well as expected,, but they also said they couldn't go above the 86 bridge!! on the other hand the white river was doing very well with some up to 8 lbs brought up, and whites in 3 to 5 lbs were common even trophy size!!

I haven't been on the Kings at 86, but going over the bridge it looks like enough water to go farther, what am I missing?

Bobber, put that 133 in and go up in it. :D

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

What you are missing is there is a very shallow shoal about 250 yards downstream from the bridge. Before the lake came up a foot or so the "lake" was about 15' wide and 6" deep. I'm not sure what a 133 is, but unless you can take it out of the water and carry it, I don't think you are going to make it as far as the bridge.
