Bman Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 My son Matt and myself got down to the park mid morning Sat. just in time for the sun to come out after the morning showers. Fishing was good. Lots of healthy lil pigs in there too. We were flyfishing catch & release all day and had no problem catching our share of fish amidst all the bait fishermen. Here's a few pics. What were we catching them on? DA MIDGE!!! sizes 20 & 22 toward evening we went to soft hackles, then the griffiths gnat good luck The only good line is a tight line
Seth Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Nice fish. The girlfriend and I are going to head down there in a few minutes to try our luck with the trout. Were you just letting the midge swing in the current or fishing it below an indicator or what?

Hey Seth, We were fishing the midge below an indicator at times or below an attractor fly like an egg or sj worm. Main thing is a drag free drift. You want to swing the soft hackles. Keep your eyes open for some of the biguns, my son nearly had one to net that would have been an easy 4 pounds (the one that got away) Good Luck, give us a report. tight lines, Bruce The only good line is a tight line
flyfshn Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Nice report and pics! Those were some nice fish! Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. flyfishmaster Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Bman, Great info and good job. That midge, is it a tan variation of a WD40? Also, since I have not been to MSSP this year, how was the crowd on Saturday? Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
Seth Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 We brought back seven trout yesterday. My stringer was one of the nicest I've taken in a LONG time. It probably weighed around 8-9 pounds just guessing. My last fish was 17 3/4" and fat as a pig so it was an easy three pounder. The Lacy Hole (aka bathroom hole) is loaded with nice fish and they are easy to catch too. Trout worms and 007 bait got hammered.
Bman Posted July 21, 2008 Author Posted July 21, 2008 Bman, Great info and good job. That midge, is it a tan variation of a WD40? Also, since I have not been to MSSP this year, how was the crowd on Saturday? Later, FFM FFM, Thanks. The midges we were using were tan or grey WD40's. The crowd wasn't too bad, we could find our space, but had to keep moving & searching. It still is vacation season so there are those who just don't care and those who don't know any better. Some are just desperate to catch a trout. For the latter I usually try to teach them something, such as trying to watch out for those guys with those long rods whipping the line in front and back & all over. I add tippet to their usually too heavy line, put something on that will get the job done, usually under a float. And more often than not after they land that first one, you have made a life long impression. Regards, The only good line is a tight line
