With the Fall season at Taney just around the corner,

now might be a good time to ask about having replica's made.

If you want a replica made, anything needed besides:

a.) measurements (length, girth)?

b.) photos (specifically what angles?)

Who would you recommend to do it?

Someone good to work with, pleasant to talk to,

Pays attention to detail, who'll make a replica that looks like they are supposed to?

Who do YOU think does the best job in this area?

Thanks.

Ed Walicki up in Michigan does a fantastic job. http://www.edwalicki.com/ His "Au Sable Razorback" is on display at Hargrove's Fly Shop in St. Louis if you want to check it out. He's done several plastic and wood carved replicas for friends and his work is top notch. Cheers.

Hey Rich..

Ive seen alot of mounts... some good.. some great and some that doesnt even look like the fish.

Yes all fish are different in shape/size/color.

Im a full believer in finding local "guys" to give business too.

you have Brett Rader.. Ive seen some AWESOME mounts come out of his shop.

then the is also Walt Phelps.. http://www.ozarktaxidermy.com/home.html

Probably the best work Ive even seen. Right down to the "purple" mark on a big brown.

I know the are others in the area. But like I said Ive seen some the looks like a piece of glass..

Talk to Michael find out who did Rick's mount (that was an AWESOME mount)..... I think that was the actually fish right?

compare some of the mounts in his shop to each other. I think he knows who done alot of them.

But FORESURE... If your going to have a mount done make sure the guy you are going to deal with knews what he is doing!!

As for as a replica you will need quite a few shots (about 10-15 photos).

find any marks that are unuseally to the fish.

head shot (a nice close up)... with the eyes, mouth, and possible a front face shot.

a full body shot.

sometimes taken a shot of both side of the fish helps. (to find the best side of the fish

a shot of the tail (for a nice detailed mount)

ofcourse the lenght and girth

Remember to do this as quickly as possible.. the fish is already stressed out.. keep the fish in the water as much as possibly..

Thanks for posting this. I think it is information that every responsible angler should have before they step into waters where a trophy fish is a possibility.

I would have to go Gary Ficher Owner of Great Fish Reproduction Studio out of Bolivar Mo.

I have known him since I was a little kid the guy that paints the fish Ronnie Mcginis is the best in this area i will put him up against anyone anytime. I have several fish in the shop that he has done for me.

The two huge Rainbows that are mounted together then I have a Striper, several Browns Several Large Mouth a Red fish and a Speckled Trout. He mounts fish for people all over the world. A lot of the fish that you will see in Bass Pro and Cabala's He has done. One day I was up at his shop and there 53 Rainbows on the floor he told me for Bass Pro new Stores.

The State recored Brown is a replica

Everyone here on this topic has hit the measurements and pics on the nail. Can never have to many photos.

Gary is working right now on my new IGFA world record I can't wait to get it back, the thing I like about Gary and Ronnie is that it's more about a work of art then just slamming the fish up on a board and hanging it on the wall. They love to do scenery and will even ask questions about the location where you caught the fish (i.e. Terrain, Banks Water condition.), so that might be able to work up something that might look really look cool and commemorate the time even better.

There Phone number is 1-866-424-7834 and the web site is www.4greatfish.com
