Members c & r Posted July 24, 2008 Members Posted July 24, 2008 Does anyone know if the log jam above Lanagan Park and the low water bridge on Indian Creek is bad as it was??......meaning that you cannot get though it without a killer portage........... any recent reports on the smallies from Anderson to the low water bridge before the log jam?? I floated from Owls Nest to Gracies on Mon. P.M. Not to great on numbers,,,,,,,,,, about 16 total with 3 between 14" and 16"........ and one beauty of 17". Tubes and a frog worked for me...anybody else have any topwater lures that have been working for them lately ???????? Thanks, Bobby
Bird Watcher Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 I don't know about the logjam, but the fishing really got good again. The water had come up about 8-12" late last week, but I went on Tuesday night up above Anderson and it had fell back out real nice. Lots of fish, even caught a nice 16". It will be good float fishing for a little bit, until it falls too far down and you have to drag. Then it will still be good fishing but kind of pain to float because of all the dragging.
Bird Watcher Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Oh, and topwaters, I always fish either a small black buzzbait or small black jitterbug the last 30-45 minutes of light and get a ton of bites on them.
Guest Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 logjam is still there and ain't going anywhere. Its about 200-300 yards worth of tangled trees and eroded banks. I caught my best smallie of the trip on the downstream side of the logjam. So, I guess all the dragging was worth it.
Guest kevinkirk Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Cant someone take a chainsaw down there and cut that log jamb out?
Guest kevinkirk Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Finally read it. GOOD LORD, thats a lot of timber down in there. So what happens to that eventually? Where does it all go? Does it have to rot in there or a fire or what? I bet that is a snake pit deluxe? What kind of timber is it? Oak or what? can you set it on fire and reduce the size? Thats what they do up here in kansas. In the winters they burn out the creek bottoms and log jambs. Or after a rain whenthe ground is wet.
Guest Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 There's over a 100 mature trees(oaks, sycamores, etc) fallen over a 200 yard stretch. I could tell that somebody made a futile attempt at cutting it out. They chainsawed one log and gave it up. It would take 3 men with chainsaws about 40 hrs or better to cut it all out. Its the biggest and longest logjam Ive seen on a small creek.
ollie Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Yea, I'll get right on that! Surrrrrrrrrrrrreeee.................... I've been doing great on the spook at dusk also. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Members redfish Posted July 25, 2008 Members Posted July 25, 2008 I have also had good luck with the black jitterbug around dusk. I also use a small torpedo that works good after it gets darker.
