Below The Dam

Recommended Posts

I went below the dam just to see what the levels looked like and to see the remains of the old fishing holes!,...well it's all new looking alright . very deep channel , along the far bank. looked to be deeper than waders could stand. better than half of the river!!! OH. that lower bathroom just above the trophy area .. it's gone! and all blocked off with orange tape! so then drove down to parkers and it's all a mess. the sidewalks are still there but, a lot that was under it is gone, and all blocked off. and has a tree across the other section of sidewalk. on the way back i cut through spider creek and it looked as if all of that lower side, of that big pool is all gone. along with all of spider creeks boat rental area that backed up in the creek. it's now just a limestone bluff!!!! . didn't really get a good look at it. i was too worried about that old one lane bridge holding me up !! and gas at the dam store was $4.49 .....OUCH!

Went out in the kayak yesterday. Put in at Parker and paddled up to the Dam. Ken from JustFishingGuides joined me. It was very interesting to hear him tell about the water before the change. Alot of new holes and alot of previous holes that were now gravel bars. Parker still looked a little rough, but fishable. Water below the cabins seems very deep. A guy said he had to hike downstream a bit before he could cross. Fishing wasnt bad, we were jsut paying more attention to the water than hunting fish. Alot of blind casting to see where they were holding. Fished a red copper john in the morning until my inpatience broke it off on a bow. Then switched to a dirty white scud and had decent luck. The real winner of the day was a brown or charcoal scud tied with rabbits hair. Overall a good paddle. It is really enjoyable getting to learnt eh water out there.
