Guest Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 We had and awesome float. 25 bass caught and released in a 4 mile float. They ranged from 8" to 18". We missed some absolute gorillas! Jigs and finesse worms ruled the day. We should have caught 50-60 bass but kept losing them.
Members CDC Posted August 26, 2008 Members Posted August 26, 2008 Wow, looks like you had a good trip. I am going to try and make it up there in the next few weeks. I had the choice this last weekend but chose Indian creek. lots of fish there but none of them big...(at least not on the stretch of river i was fishing). What is that you were using? looks like a jig in the pic but can't quite tell.
ollie Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I floated the lower Elk with my neighbor on Sunday and we tore them up also! The bite is on again! Oh yea! We were throwing huge plastics in a dark green. We C & R several nice fish, but my neighbor caught a trophy greenie. Measured out at 22" and a girth of 14". We guessed somewhere around 7#. I figured that stretch could give up a nice smallie or two. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Buzz Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Wow those are some nice fish. I might have to try that stretch. I haven't fish any of it in several years. Looks like all of the stories about the big fish being all fished out wasn't true after all. The best part of it is that you caught them on the same baits that I would have thrown. Well done. Ollie, I sure would have liked to have seen that 22 incher. Sounds like a good day all around. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Members redfish Posted August 26, 2008 Members Posted August 26, 2008 Those are some good looking fish. Where did you float from? I'm fishing Lake Ouachita this weekend, I'll give a report on Mon. or Tue.
Guest Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 3/8oz flippin jigs (peanut butter/jelly) fished in the logs. Finesse worms played a big role in the running water between pools. If if had current and logs with baitfish, it had bass feeding there too. I caught one of my fish on a berkley swimbait. I would bet that a torpedo or fluke would work really well.
