Paola Cat Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Not sure what it is patterning .... awful small for a gut blob. I think most likely it looks like a scud, caddis pupa, or midge larva. I use red also. #18-#20 not weighted but that might be good idea .... make the split shot even smaller. Cheers. PC
dave potts Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Is that tied with marabou or oestrich. Sure looks like oestrich herls in the picture. If it really is marabou, how do you wrap it to get that look? Dave
DoveTail Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 On the strands of marabou, if you tie in the tips and work the herl towards the eye of the hook it will get thicker and use 4-5 herls. Using the tips and wrapping will leave about 1/2 the herl that will be cut off (so this makes a very neat small fly). If you tie in about mid section of the herl and wrap it, it will get thick and look like the pics posted. Ostrich will probably give the thicker apperance - may be too much for an 18 hook?
rcguy Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Oh GREAT! , another one to tie this week in case I get to Bennett this weekend. But if PC says it's good I believe him. He can catch his limit in the parking lot!
