denjac Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Just inherited a hand full of old rods and two of them are mitchell 508 spinning reel with rods.. I had never seen them before. The reel have a long fork on them and mount on the very end of the rod like a fly fishing rig. Think I will give them a try for trout fishing. Anybody know the history of these and what they were used for? Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. jjtroutbum Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 I did a quick Google search and found the sight listed at the bottom. It had a few reels pictured and a couple of the rods listed also. Really an interesting concept for a rod and reel set up. I have a couple of inherited Garcia reels models 300 and 301 I believe. I had not bothered to look up anything about them since they have continued to work flawlessly since before I was around. Thanks for the curiosity spark. http://www.networkdimension.com/garciamitchell.html Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. denjac Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 Thanks for the lookup! My step Father did alot of canoeing on the white and buffalo back in the 40 50 ad 60's. I know he used them for that. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo.
