TroutBum4wt Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Do you all have any special tricks, products and such to help fight off ticks, chiggers and other biting bugs? My doctor suggested mixing Permectrin II, a dog and livestock formula, with water and spraying it on my hunting boots (not skin) to help with the early-season bug problem. He's a bow hunter and has tried it with success. The chiggers got me bad last year. Thanks! "Where There Are Trout, There's Hope" - John Gierach
bclift65706 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 look for some scent free bug spray hard to find sometimes I need to get some myself. I try to go before a good frost but you probley know it is a nearly impossible to do. Getting 25 ft up in a tree helps a little.
jjtroutbum Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 permetherin spray or wash from Bass Pro for your clothes and deet for your skin. Trav Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 My place is crawling with those pesky critters. I find deet to work well. It does give you an scent though. Using extra skunk musk to mask the smell could work. It also helps to pick a location way off the ground. It helps to air the scent of the deet above the animals range as well as keeps your exposure to the bugs to a limit. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Seth Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 I spray my clothes down with Permanone and let soak for a few days to take care of the ticks and chiggers. A Thermacell is your best friend for fending off the mosquitoes. It takes about 15 minutes after you to turn it on before it works, but you can sit out there naked and not get a mosquito bite after it kicks in. Both of these are available at the local Walmart too.
