Danoinark Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers cautioned Tuesday evening that residents downstream of dams on the White River may experience heavier than normal releases. “Depending how much and where rain actually falls, the Army Corps of Engineers could be prompted to make larger than normal releases from Beaver, Table Rock, Bull Shoals or Norfork dams,” a press release warned. * “Rain forecasts are not accurate enough to predict for certain whether any of these lakes will fill to capacity or beyond, but they indicate it is possible. Once a lake approaches its capacity, flows downstream can increase with only short advance notice, perhaps no more than an hour or two. “If large releases become necessary, warnings will go out through local emergency management channels,” the press released continued. “Those downstream should talk with local emergency officials to ensure they stay abreast of the most up-to-date conditions. “People downstream should remain aware of this potential for sudden rises in river levels and take precautions to ensure their safety and protect their property. Anglers should be vigilant that escape routes are not cut off by rising water. Downstream dock owners should ensure their docks are properly secured.” Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Guest kevinkirk Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I looked at a house down on Foggy RIver Road and was told that it had not flooded in 60 yrs and prob wouldnt for 500 more years since its a 500 yr flood event..GUESS NOT. laker67 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Dano, Thanks for the report. I heard that BSD shut down for 4 hours yesterday to allow some incoming water to clear out downstream. I would suspect that Beaver will have to run some water which will effect TRD. Let's hope for the best on this go around.
