podum Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Willing to drive an hour or two. Looking for a place near a stream. Any suggestions? I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
soggyfeet Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Hour or two from where? I dont know of any streams locally but north you have Smithville lake and to the South you have Hillsdale Lake and to the west Perry and Clinton lakes. All about an hour from downtown. Brian
podum Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 Love the avatar soggy. I live in overland park, but my heart (and money) are in Columbia. I know about the nearby lakes, but was hoping to let her get her feet wet in a big creek or small river. The little niangua and sac seem like the nearest options, but am wondering if anyone has another idea. Thanks again for quick response. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
soggyfeet Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Well hello neighbor I'm in Leawood. With a little further drive you can hit the Elk. The great thing about that drive is its straight down 71 but its about 3 1/2 hours. Kozy Kamp is right off the Highway so none of those winding roads. Maybe this time of year the roudy crouds are gone on all the rivers. Good Luck Brian
podum Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 Never been to the Elk, but have read good things here. Thanks for the suggestion. GO TIGERS! I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
ollie Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 You need to call any of those outfitters down here before you come down. Right now the water is rolling pretty good from what I can tell and the fact some of them close after Labor Day weekend. That was in case you were spending the night. If not then there will probably be somewhere she can get her feet wet! "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I don't think there's a stream within an hour of KC that I would let my kids put there feet in. Some of the creeks on the north side of LOZ are clear as well as the ones south. If it were me I would head to Bennett Spring. There are several campgrounds that offer what you want, Riverside is one. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
soggyfeet Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 The problem with most of the rivers that are floatable in Mo. is they are not very G rated. I dont know if they have calmed down yet or not with school back in session. My best luck has been on the elk but i have heard that one is getting bad too. Brian
podum Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 Thanks for all the replies! Anyone ever been to Cedar Camp on the Little Niangua (at Macks Creek)? I like that creek and it may be the closest option. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
