Murdoc Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 This subject came up a while back and I did some emailing and talking with a few members and the MDC. It was a common agreement that a 24" length limit among the OAF was favorable. In talking with most they didn't keep any Browns anyway but to know that everyone would have to follow the same length limit would be good. Please vote and post your comments. Thank you!!!! PS. At this time 2:30PM 160 people have looked at the poll and only 14 have voted. Please vote. Every vote counted is what the MDC is looking for!!! Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
Danoinark Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Put me in the Yes column. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Micheal Kyle Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I say yes, This is already a world class fishery for Browns. If they will make it 24" holly crap hold on in a couple of years there will be so many big browns, not that there are any right now. It took me a long time I think about 15 years to break the 10 pound barrier with browns. If this happens everyone will have the opportunity to break the 10 pound mark a lot sooner. Guest kevinkirk Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Suits me fine. Can you imagine the kind of fishing you would have. I cant wait to get there next year. With all this high water, the spawns both in Taney and in the other lakes will be fantastic. Crappie will be first in two years, then bass two years after that will be so SO good. I cant wait. If the Lakes will advertise that fact, ppl will flock there to fish once again. Table Rock will regain what it once was with big fish and plenty for everyone. The Walleye will also respond and will suddenly appear out on the flats and points in 3 years and be huge in 5. So there is a silver lining. I do feel so so sorry for those flooded. How awful. I cannot imagine and here it is likely to occur again. Too much water and another hurricane headed that way for next weekend.
Dawgsquat Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I say yes as well. I release all mine anyway. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
Members Black Mayfly Posted September 6, 2008 Members Posted September 6, 2008 Count me in too! Ironically, I was thinking about writing the MDC and a State Representative which happens to be a close family friend in regards to increasing the slot limit for rainbows to 22". I was going to suggest the brown limit moving to 22" so I would only need one mark on my fly rod and net. 24" isn't a bad thought.

Murdoc is the guru and gang leader with this issue on here. You ought to get with him on some good sample letters for all of us on the subject, maybe some pertinent addresses etc. I think good solid reasons as to why it should change is important for MDC and your legislators to consider. Bman Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Count me in, I always catch/release in the trophy area. BTW I've had some real fights with some big Browns, and always released in good shape. I think it would be cool to make the trophy area catch and release only! The only good line is a tight line
laker67 Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Very good Murdoc. An excellent poll. I have inside info that MDC is a frequent visitor to this web site. In conjunction with the new creel check, this is what they are looking for to evaluate and see if the size limit could be increased. Mike Kruse stated the very same thing in his reponse to Murdoc. they did not think that it would increase the #'s, but "boy howdy" look at the size increase. All browns uncreeled until they reached about 8 pounds. I'm going to head down there right now and wait for them to grow up! My vote is a big "yes". This is probably something for Dano, but every time I tried to vote, it registered as an error. Maybe be why you are not getting as many votes from all the lookers. Thank you Murdoc, I'll see you on the creek. MDC is looking for angler response, so get out there and vote.
Members Fishing Milwright Posted September 7, 2008 Members Posted September 7, 2008 I'am in favor of 24". I believe Arkansas is going to one Brown over 24"
