Micheal Kyle Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I have not heard much this time around about the water release, I was just wanting to make sure everyone down stream is doing alright. If anyone needs anything I will do what I can to help. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
Guest kevinkirk Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I was looking to purchase house on Foggy RIver road. IS the water going to reach that this time? Can someone get pictures of the dam. Also, can you access the pics I post on here. I forgot how to post them but see I have three. Want to post some more if someone will tell me how I did it the first time.
DoveTail Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I forgot how to post them but see I have three. Want to post some more if someone will tell me how I did it the first time. Either click reply or new topic. The window pops up to type text in. On the lower right side will be a Browse... and also an UPLOAD button. Click the browse and you can look through your computer or memory card (where ever your images are), LEFT click to highlight, then click open - then click the UPLOAD button on OAF. You won't see it in a preview but the menu of "Manage Current Attachments" will show you if it has uploaded and ready to post. Walla!
Members MOFish Posted September 7, 2008 Members Posted September 7, 2008 Here are a couple (I think). It was amazing to me that they shut the gates off sometime this morning. but couldn't get back out on the lake to see how the fish recovered (or not).
Leonard Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 It is my understanding that they had the gates open for a very short period of time (just a few hours)... Then shut them.. Fishing was great yesterday... even though it was around outlet 1.. Lots of fish are really stacking in there. saw some big browns in the 5-8lb range (and a rainbow pushing 7-9lbs about 25-28in)... and heard reports of a couple of 10's out and about... There was a huge male in outlet 1 just full of color... even when it was overcast in just "glowed" in the water!! http://www.taneycomonights.com

Rolan Duffield Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 My sons and I were on Taney Friday (9-5-08 ) when they opened the flood gates that afternoon. The flood gates were shut off by Saturday morning. Remember what Phil was woried about earlier in the Summer --- warm water. Under normal conditions we normally see water temps in 45 degree range. Last Thursday at Lilleys, my boat indicated the water temp at approximately 54 degrees with 4 gates open. When we went up to the dam Friday afternoon the water temp varied from 66 degrees to 74 degrees with the 10 flood gates open at their reported low flow output (thats water coming over the dam). Saturday morning the temp was about 58 degrees in the upper watershed. Glad they didn't have to leave the gates open any longer than than they did. I wonder what the impact was on the health of our trout in Taney. Fishing was just fair for us. You need to keep the lure on the bottom to catch them consistently. they're good fighters and they appear to be in good condition.
Members jefly77 Posted September 8, 2008 Members Posted September 8, 2008 To those of you worried about the temperatures of the water, I wouldn't worry too much. I'm from Oklahoma and I grew up fishing the Lower Mountain Fork where the water temperature in the heat of summer can reach into the low 70s during low flows. The browns down there still manage to survive it and as recently as 3 years ago the state record (17lbs and change)was caught about 5 miles downriver from the generation release point. I think they are a little hardier than you guys are giving them credit for.
jjtroutbum Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Thanks for the update Rolan and Jefy I think your right but were concerned a little extra about the timing being so close to the run. Keep those updates comming. Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. Guest kevinkirk Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 There has to be springs all along there which will keep those browns cool enough. Might be hard to find but they will be there. In colorado, on the rio grande, they move clear out into the valley and adapt very well to that warmer water. Some monsters caught way out in that flat hot valley. We found some springs along a bluff and on the hot days, the fish were stacked in there. Get your temp probes out and drift the whole river and find the cool spots. Then fish just down from those.
