brittsnbirds Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 FFM- "You can put a big guy in the water with one size too small blue swim trucks to just scare the fish out of the water." More like BIG guy handing out lot's of flies....... Very gracious your brother is!! Whatever you do give him a good 10 yards, when he sets the hook, he doesn't mess around. I think his words were "I want the fish to know it!" Good thing he uses a short 3 wt. Ed, like FFM said the Rs2 kill them but you have to be on the indicator. If there is the slightest movement you have to nail them. Sometimes you can barely detect a strike. You also have to be down on the bottom sometimes bouncing it. Takes a lot of adjusting of your weight and indicator depth. Sometimes you have to change back and forth until you get the right presentation. Pat
Kyle Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I have had lot of luck just past the bridge in the faster water in zone 2 fishing a combonation of 2 of the following: san juan (brown, pink, or red), scud (gray, tan, olive, or pink), midge (prefferably the rusty or zebra), glow ball (white, or off-white w/ red dot), or any sunken dry fly. Bounce them off of the bottom and hang on. If a fish hits them in that fast water they hit hard, and they all feel like they weigh 5 pounds in the swift current. Good luck Kyle
Paola Cat Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Wow .... this has got the beginnings of a pretty good thread. Under normal conditions anywhere there's faster/skinnier water: midges, scuds, and nymphs. Faster/skinnier water to mid water transition: Cracklebacks, Woolies, Buggers, Slump busters, Emergers (RS2, buzzers) and last but not least .... soft hackles (P&G, P&Y). Deeper slower water: Nymphs, Cracklebacks, Woolies, Mini-Jigs. Higher/Off colored water: Glow balls (white, peachy king), SJWs, and white thread jigs. PC Cheers. PC
DoveTail Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 They make 10' sections of sinking line you can attach to your regular fly line, some come with welded loops so it makes a quick change possible. That will help you get it down in the deep water by the dam. The fish are deep there.
Members edward Posted October 17, 2008 Author Members Posted October 17, 2008 I'm finally going to get a chance to put some of these ideas to the test. I'll send back a detailed report of how it goes.
